After the shot: playing with the camera
I bowhunted all day and never got to see the buck I want, but just as it was getting dark (and too dark to shoot my bow) a pig ran through and scared off the deer. This was, of course, not going to work. I quickly picked up the rifle that happened to be sitting there and put the piggie down. Setting up for a photo I noticed the full moon was rising and was really lit up golden with the clouds. Put that in the background!
Then on the way out of the property (a couple hours later - had to clean the pig and put all my toys away) the moon was high and I tried something I've been thinking about for a while. I managed to get the effect I wanted on my second shot. The moon provided enough light to make a long exposure look like daylight with stars. Cool!

Great shot as always glenn, you must have a wide open f/stop for those!

Actually Tod, the pig shot was at f8 for 30 seconds and worked out well. Taking self portraits requires a little guesswork for focus and I need a smaller aperture. The moon provided plenty of light for the "day" shot I stepped down to f4.5 (at only 20 seconds) for better depth of field. I should have tried other combinations and experimented while conditions were good, but after hunting all day I was tired and ready for a hot shower and bed.

Re: After the shot: playing with the camera
Saturday I tried again. It was foggy coming in, and there was enough moon to try another shot at the gate. Not bad, and definitely a different feel to it!
That night I had to stop on the way out and just enjoy the clear skies.
