Is GULP worth the money?

Post by Tight Lines »

Just want to know if the GULP products are worth the money? I'm not one to change my fishin ways often, but if something works I'm willing to try it. Any info would help. Thanks.

I have been using Gulps for the past two trips at Christmas Bay and may throw out all my old plastics after the success I've been having. I am going to try a couple of more times just to be sure.

Gulps

Post by kingfish »

I hope so. Tonight I bought one of the one pint jars of 3 inch pearl white gulp shrimp. Those jars about 20 bucks, but you can put a used gulp back in the juice and use it again instead of letting it harden. I have had good luck with that color and have some new penny also but haven t given them a chance yet. Give em a try. Use a screw lock jig head. Acad has some in 1/4 oz and 1/8 for a buck and a half per pack. Good luck.

gulp shrimp have been productive, rootbeer and new penny. the red sea shad are not living up to promise. also they are all a lot harder to load on a jig head than your everyday shrimptail or shad so be careful.

Gulp works well for bait stealers and hardheads. They luv to eat the tails off of the swimming mullet. Difficult to get the package to seal after opening and all the juice will leak out. I now have four pack's with no juice, tail less and a stinking tackle box. Gulp hasn't increased my catch but in muddy water under a cork might be the only choice to use.

Honestly, they all work, even the freshwater ones, and I don't think the color has a single thing to do with it. I look for the unpopular colors on clearance. Cabelas once had the freshwater curlytails in the bargain barn for .88 cents once. Sportsman's Warehouse on occasion clears out old saltwater Gulp for %50 off.

Gulp shrimp do work!

Post by vgwallis »

All I can say is amazing. I've been using the New Penny 3" shrimp with great success. Just go ahead and buy the small pale for $19.99. You get a more shrimp for your money, more juice, and don't have to worry about the zip lok part of the plasic bag type breaking and leaking. The only problem is when the fish take these they truly do "gulp" them down. Be sure you have a long set of needle nose or hook grabbers to get them out. They inhale these things after they pick them up.

Gulp now wins more redfish tournaments than everything else combined.

If the winners use Gulp, a flubber like me should pay attention.

Main problem with Gulp is that it will not catch anything if you are fishing where there are no fish.

Gulp on a jig.
Fishbites on a spoon (single hook).
Artificials for everything else.

Just another opinion.

Some lure only tournaments are not allowing Gulps. That should clear things up a bit. 8)

Taking the wife and kids this weekend. I will have a bait bucket with my castnet but probably wont use it. My 5 year old catches plenty with Gulps on a Zebco 33. Ill try and get some pics this weekend.

OK, so this is a stupid followup question....

Do you think the stink wears off a Gulp?
I've fished them all day and I've changed them every hour or so.
Unfortunately, I can't do both at the same time in the same place to decide whether a "fresh" Gulp is more attractive than a hard bitten, 3 hour old one.

Opinions?

Used it last weekend for first time. Caught good reds and trash fish as well.

They have been proven to work for me several times over. Esp in stained water we get here occasionally.
I fish them mainly under a mauler float. Allows more time for scent to disperse in water. You have to fish them like useing live bait.
