Color of a kayak: does it matter?

Post by Gig'em »

I'm planning on getting one that happens to be granite grey. Do you seasoned saltwater paddlers see any problems with one this color? Just wondering.

Yak Color

It only matters to you! I've been paddling a granite Tarpon 16 for 2 yrs now, no problems. Go to the 4th page of posts. Clay has a poll on Yak color. Some like a bright color for safety. The Yak is down in the water. I think a bright shirt & flashing paddle blades is more visible.

Color And Safety

I have a bright yellow Tarpon. I chose yellow because it can be seen in nearly all light conditions. I have a couple of other kayaks that the wife uses and that I loan out. They are much harder to see than the yellow is. The yellow does not seem to bother the fish.

As Newt says a bright shirt and flashing white paddles help.
