Shoffer's PB Speckled Trout!

Post by Dandydon »

I found the actual photo. Hope it transmits to his TKF fans...

Shoffer and I both want to exceed that 30" Trout record. We're close! See you on the water. Image

Crusader, my 29.75-inch Speckled Trout caught in a Sabine Lake Cove was a keeper.

But I released it, along with the other seven specks I caught over 7 lbs, all within the best 70 minutes of my life. Image

you know what they say, big hands, big crusader.
I'm betting that's why Cheryl was so fond of DD.

I have decided to give Crusader a pass. Crusader PM'd me yesterday, offered a heartfelt apology, and blamed his poor attitude on the frustration he felt at the dearth of time on the water. It appears that Crusader has stumbled upon a new hobby. When I inquired what it was, he sent me a link to this video:

I don't get it. Perhaps he can explain it to us further.

This thread, like our Covid-dominated lives, has gone to Hell and back. I had a damn colonoscopy yesterday and am still butt-shocked on drugs.

But I know this, if Shoffer offers you "a PASS," then take it. Looks like Crusader has learned the hard way not to insult us fishing attorneys. We'll sue your ass or maim it, ha ha.

As for my big hands (Ron), I can still palm two basketballs (or Cheryl Ladd's ample titties). After my sad 4-day marriage last year, I'm considering giving Cheryl a call. I hear she's in between marriages.

Now can we get back to masking and kayak-fishing?! Image

this one's only 26" from a Nov week targeting fly rod mackerel and big specs at S. Padre.

Image
We began every morning running to the jetties to check for blackwater.
If it wasn't there, we'd run the grassline up the island and watch for diving pelicans on the bare sand bottom.
If we saw one, would turn the boat out and around, beach it, then wade downwind to sight-fish the big spec.
Got a spec this size every day that week (except for the day with fly rod king).

Nice solid speck, Ron. I love fishing and power-lounging in S. Padre.

And although your hands aren't huge, we both resemble the Frito Bandito...

Plus if you can really sing, you're invited to one of my band's Jam Sessions. After we all get vaccinated, of course.

My band is The Train Wreck. We perform mostly 60s-70s cover-songs, plus a few originals. We were invited to play at Trump's Inauguration Party, but those plans are now fractured, kinda like our country.

I solo'd The Weight with some well-lubricated pickers in Luchenbach, and it was well-received.

Check out my Dad's hands - he played basketball for Memphis State before that meant anything.
(my sister is an accomplished pianist)

Not bad, Ron... Looks like your Dad could palm two pro basketballs like me. Plus points for the fish!

You're lucky if your father is still alive and accessible. Mine died in 1998 at age 73, about the maximum age attained on that side of our family.

Lucky for me I favor my feisty 95-year-old Mom. Her father lived to age 98, her mother made it to 95. They were fun country people who owned 5 miles of fertile bottom-land along the Guadalupe River near Seguin.

I grew up swimming, fishing, canoeing and hunting along the mighty Guadalupe with my brother and crazy cousins. Thank you, Lord.

Don, here was my dad's 90th b/d fishing trip last year, and it's my mom who couldn't make the trip this year.

http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/foru ... &p=2295515

The photo above (and below) was his 78th birthday trip to Estes - Whit and Steve both attended those glorious 5 days.
Dad shuttled us to Allyn's Lake and drifted St. Joe shore for half a day. Now he wouldn't be able to do that - at least not alone.

Thanks for sharing. You're lucky to have your parents still around. My Dad was always willing to take us kids fishing and exploring when he wasn't running The Houston Chronicle.

He taught us how to fish, how to fight, how to love and live. I sometimes glimpse him fishing in Heaven. Image

Sorry, couldn't skip a perfect opportunity to poke you in a side, guys. Pretty sure you understand.

Wrt PBs:
- my PB trout is 27" and was caught accidentally when stalking reds. I can (relatively) easily improve it -- all I need to do is to soak few croakers for few days in E. Matagorda in spring and early summer. But it is boring af and I never chase trout specifically, just don't care about them
- my actual PB is 85lb tuna -- if I find a pic, I'll post it

If we are discussing actual PBs, mine is an 8' striped marlin estimated at 190 lbs caught in Cabo San Lucas in 2004. My better half was six months pregnant with our first child and she caught a 7 1/2 foot marlin thirty minutes later.
