It's been a long time since I posted, but I check the page on occasion.
Have a question for those of yall that camped & fished at Galveston Island State Park recently.
I understand the kayak launch has been rebuilt.
Me and my boy are planning a weekend camping/kayak fishing trip for April.
We had one a few weekends ago at Somerville for the white bass run and he had a lot of fun.
- How early & late does the state park allow access in?
Not sure if we can show up on Friday late evening, but I would like to so we can make the most of it.
- During the nights, does it get noisy?
We'll be sleeping in a tent. I was camping at Bastrop SP in January and couldn't get a half-hour's worth of sleep. Somerville was good
- Did Harvey negatively affect the grass flats & marshes by the park?
It's been almost 3 years since I last been there.

The park is in great shape. There are 3 kayak launches and all are easy. The campgrounds are great and I have never had anyone be loud or crazy. The gates open at 7am and close at 10pm. I think you will need to get there before the office closes though to get your campsite. Be sure and reserve a sight early. It fills up fast. Like, I would even do it no so you don't have to worry about it. Great fishing all around there. I love that place and the restrooms and showers are nicer than some expensive hotels!
