Post by Tombo »

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think my fishing license expired yesterday for saltwater.
I think all saltwater license expired yesterday. Don't know about fresh water but I think its the same.

Good reminder, thank you. I hope to go out soon after being otherwise sidelined from the water for 2-3 months. I'd have probably forgotten before going in a week or two.

Not necessarily. TPWD also sells full calendar year from date of purchase all water fishing licenses. They cost a few bucks more but are often worth it IMHO depending on your date of purchase.

I used to do mine every August but didn't like that it was in the middle of my fishing season. Now I do it every February when I know I won't be on the water. Didn't even notice that it cost more either 8)

I already took care of Texas, but this reminder was very timely for me to get my Louisiana license....seeing as I am fishing there (post storm) this weekend.

So thank you

Since I fish about once a week, I do the year to date with a free month.

It works because the year to date is not actually to date, but to the month. So I buy my license on the 1st after it expired on the last day of the previous month. Doing this method might make the year to date license cost less per month than the Aug 31 to Aug 31 license.

no, cost per month:
year to date license, $47/13 = $3.62, and if you don't stage to get the extra month, $47/12 = $3.92
Aug-end license bought in September, $40/12 = $3.33
If you buy your Aug-end license in October, $40/11 = $3.64.
So it only saves you money compared to buying the Aug-end license in November ($4.00/mo) or later.

I didn't forget anything on my last grocery store run.

Not really luck at all. You don't get it free. You paid a price for it with your service, which I THANK YOU for by the way!
