New fishing reel
I just bought a PENN Pursuit 4000 on sale. What rod do y’all think I should pair with this. I would use this on jetties and wade fishing. (New to saltwater fishing)
Re: New fishing reel
I am far from an expert so take this as 60 year old experience speaking. I would not use the same rod at the jetties as for wade fishing. Jetty rods that are stronger action have always been better for me around the rocks. In the wade fishing areas I have found softer action rods to be much better and less tiring. The reel will be fine in either situation. However I would have a second spool with 30+ pound line for the jetty effort. Shallow water I use 20 pound braid which I find too light to force things around the rocks of the jetties. Either way be sure to have fun.

think long rod and lowest lure rating 1/4- or 3/8-oz.
From now to fall is a great time to be on the jetties - try to plan your trips around max tide flow.
Fish toward the beach on incoming tide, the channel on falling.
in addition to tide flow, try to plan around getting the wind behind you - long casts always helps.
