You can pay if you want but they have never asked me to pay when I launch and I always launch after 6 pm.
I never see anyone to pay anyway.
Good safe place to launch.
If I launch there in the mornings or more often I would pay them to use their ramp as it is a good ramp and helping them stay in business helps us to have a good place to launch to such easy night lights!

Well my wife is giving mixed messages now :/

She actually is going to need to work Friday where before she was not, which means the kids need someone else to watch them now.

I'm trying to come to a compromise where I get back home at 5am so I can play daddy daycare. I'll let y'all know if negotiations are successful but for now I'm still planning to be there, but just from 11pm - 3am. I saw the tide chart and that's basically slack tide tide. Sigh... Oh well.

Chubs..... why are you night fishing at 11pm when it gets dark around 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm? That would give you a few extra hours of fishing.

In regards to the launch location, I've been kayak night fishing out there for a long time and I can tell you this. As Charlie has mentioned, launching after hours there is no fee. I have also noticed that since Hurricane Harvey, the restaurant hasn't really been watching for people parking in the parking lot that aren't supposed to be there. They used to have people towed. If you get to the launch even after the restaurant has closed, you are good to go. What I have always done is this...... looking at the little opening going into and down to the boat ramp from Stewart Road, I park on the southeast corner of Stewart Road and on the side of Stewart Road across the street from the location I just previously mentioned. Just make sure your vehicle is not touch the road at all or the police will ticket you. That is the safest bet that will not get you towed or ticketed that I have found. As I said though, the restaurant has not been really watching over things since the hurricane.

Only because that's when DD and Shoffer said they were starting ;)
Also it'll take me a good 2 hours to get there and by the time I get on the water etc. However this is a good point, I will probably start as early as I can (which might just mean 10PM start time instead) and meet you guys on the water.

Do yall carry VHF radios? What channel do you tune to?

As for launching - thanks for the tips. I actually just looked at Mad-Skills-Watson's suggested launch area - Galveston Island State park - that looks like a sure bet with a parking area and little walking trail I'm sure I could cart my yak down. And it dumps you directly into the townhomes. Is there a reason not to launch from there? Fees/ break ins?

Oh man... Ok so I suggest you guys don't rig up plastic minnow power baits at lunch. There is glitter all over the place and all over my clothes.

The reason(s) for not launching from GISP is because there is a $5 park fee to enter where the boat ramp is free at night. The extra time it takes to get to where you are fishing from the boat launch is not much at all compared to launching from GISP (this reason is minimal). The other reason (more important) I would consider not launching from GISP is that the gates are locked after hours and won't open until 6:00 am. You would be stuck in the park until the morning.

Ahh, thanks for the info, did not know any of that. I've never fished West Bay past San Luis Pass before :)

In other news, the forecast for Lake Como as of a few mins ago

Near 15mph sustained winds, 20mph wind gusts, thunderstorms oh my!

MWatson has already voiced concerns last time I texted him.
DD and Shoffer are yall still planning to be there?

My wife has again given me a somewhat of a pass, but I'd be ok to try a different night as the forecast looks a little dicey now at my experience level. I'll note my wife is out of town AND taking the kids over July 3rd - 8th. I can fish till I drop!

You guys are way more trouble than you're worth. I've never seen such pointless gibberish around a damn fishing trip. Shoffer & I make our plans and then DO AS PLANNED like trained Navy Seal soldiers. Tonight we'll be where we said at the time stated. End of story.
Any more gibberish & you'll not be invited again. Don't make me mad. I can hurt you bad.

DD has a kung fu grip like no other. I will be there with my custom, hand tied, tandem rigs in trout killing colors. I am going to take my pre-midnight limit, paddle back to my car and unload into the cooler, drive them back to a place of legal dropping, and then go back and get my post-midnight limit.

So I caught my twenty trout. And then some. At one point I was catching two at a time on my tandem rig. The 2” Tsunami Pro holographic. The only problem is all but two of them had to be released to swim another day. Unfortunately, one of them never stood a chance though as the poor little dink was bleeding and belly up upon release.

I managed to give two trout a ride home with me. I thought they were about 15.5 and 16 and it turns out they were just over 16 and right at 18. Bellies full of minnows. Soon to be lunch.

Most of the small ones were caught on the Tsunami tandem. I caught one on a Gulp porgy (gray color). The 18” was caught on a 3” Tsunami Pro paddle tail minnow in sea trout color in a surface light. I had zero bites on anything white or glow which are my normal go to colors. Not zero fish - zero bites. It was strange. The 16” was caught in an underwater green light. I don’t remember the lure but likely a 3” shiny greenish paddle tail minnow.

Great detailed report, sir! As for me, I caught about 10 undersized specks on a 3.5" H & H paddletail in chartreuse & silver. Got so tired of dealing w/ those dinks that I anchored up for about an hour & took me a Man-Nap on the Outback. Then I woke up & caught my only keeper, an 18" speck gifted to Capt. Shoffer.
It was, sadly, "The Night of the Dinks" for me, but the three Fishing Attorneys had a blast and will do it again soon. One of these nights the "big girl" fish will show up. Onward, men!

+/- 25 dinks for me, three 17-18 inch rat reds who fought well, and three legal specks for me - a 16, 17 and 18 inch - all on the Down South Glo and Chartreuse on either a 1/8 or 1/4 jighead. We had some calm wind protected shorelines, and some not so protected underwater lights full of popping trout for hours. All of them were hitting those little glass minnows MWatson mentioned and many trout puked them up when caught. I had 4-5 dead minnows on the deck of my yak all night. A little windier than I'd like, but manageable, and the benefit of the more turbulent water is that the fish are not spooky at all. and I got one 18 inch speck from DandyDon to help feed one of my colleagues. Thanks DD!

Sounds like you guys had fun. Sorry I couldn't make it. I really was going to go but my wife's car was in the shop till 8pm, and didn't get home with the kids to bed till 9. Wasn't packed at all due to my wife was driving my truck so by the time I'd have got out there I'd have had to turn around and come home basically.

Anyway, glad y'all all caught some keepers. And two at a time trouts sounds fun even if they are dinks. DD sorry for being a bit apprehensive earlier but honestly, I don't really know what to expect of folks I've never met in person so wasn't sure how you guys would have planned to operate. Now I know so anyways, hope no hard feelings!

Hopefully I'll see y'all out there some time. Tight lines!
