The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
Here are the rules for the NIGHTTIME TOURNEY️️ hosted this May by Shoffer & me.
As we get closer to tournament time, we'll pick some Saturday night in May for the 8pm-7am competition. If the date chosen gets rained out, we'll select an alternate Saturday night date.
Get your teams ready & hope to see you on our waters of the night!
P.S. I'm importing these Rules from a screen-shot. If unreadable, I'll repost this.

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
This looks like it's gonna be a blast! I hope all get a chance to enter and try to win! Night time fishing is always so relaxing.
I will show for the tourney and fish with everyone but I will not be able to join as I am only one kayaker and do not want nor have a team. I also have a small 24 lb thrust trolling motor that lets me get around easier because of my back issues (I'm an old man on borrowed time) so I am not able to join. It would be nice to join and possibly share in the prizes but I will be there for support for others just the same!

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
Thanks, KickingBack! We were hoping you'd compete in the NIGHTTIME TOURNEY️️ so Shoffer & I could embarrass you, MWatson, Chubbs, Driftingyak, Texas Nomad, Tobin, Big Mouth, Itchy Paddle & the rest of you yakking miscreants!
Even if you can't afford the $20 entry fee, I may discount yours if you show up with some decent Tourney prizes! We also might need some help confirming fish measurements at the 7am "measurement ritual."
If any questions, comments or pop-offs about the Tourney, please bring them on & maybe Shoffer will answer. I'm kinda busy throwing Frisbees, plotting weather patterns & sipping my Makers Mark...
Here's the last time I saw Shoffer (below), night-fishing some eerie canal; yelling Comanche war cries as he hand-grabbed his fish. Sometimes he scares me. Let's go catch some fish at night!

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
LOL
I can afford the entry fee. That is not the issue. It is the rules that keep me from entering. I can't enter as I have a trolling motor and the rules say no motorized kayaks.
Believe me, I was really excited and looking forward to enter this tourney but the rules keep me from being able to enter. I have no alternative but to show up like I was going to and fish alone and cheer on others that can enter.
Oh, I will be catching fish and when daylight comes and everyone has submitted their catches, I will show what I caught and have bragging rights instead of a paycheck. LOL
I will still show with the prizes I have donated already so no worries.

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
Hells bells! I thought you were kidding about that motor on your kayak! My mistake...
Since we believe your motor confers an unfair advantage on the rest of the field, I hereby declare another NIGHTTIME TOURNEY️️ division, the "Motor Yaks!" Anybody with a kayak motor can enter that division, but sad to say you'll get no prizes or trophies like the other 3 approved divisions. Maybe some cheesy fishing gear...
You will get recognition, however, as the best nighttime motor yak fisher-person! If only KickingBack enters, looks like he wins by default!
Anybody else have some problems, suggestions, questions or funny comments? Being 'em on.
I hope we get more than three competitors!

LOL, It's OK.
I don't need another "division". I will be out there but I will not enter due to rules. No worries.
I will be an unofficial gallery/umpire on the water watching all have fun while I catch a load of trophy fish!
Besides, like I said, I will have my bragging rights at the ramp when the tourney is over!

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
Sounds fun.
Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
If KB wants to join in, he will only be one angler, he is already at a disadvantage, so I would be amenable to grandfathering him in with his motor. I still need to run it by the Senior Captain, but I am fishing in Florida right now, on a high from a 32 inch snook today, so I may just be too charitable. And I am a little drunk, too.

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
, posted twice, yep, you're drunk...
Please do not worry about it! I am fine with participating but not in for any prizes. I will be there to assist others with any issues and I can take some pictures while I am "motoring" around everyone.
It will be OK! I used to host get togethers like this in the military and I enjoy watching all have fun more than trying to win!
Let's see some posts from people interested in joining?!

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
Hey about how many people show up for this? It looks like a blast. Does anybody show up solo and find a partner?
Any idea how far advance notice we would have with the dates?
Sounds cool, is beer drinking and cajun music allowed?

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
Men, it's recommended you arrange your night doubles teams in advance. Fishing solo at night is not real safe, so we set this up for doubles. Use of marine radios is allowed, & probably a good idea to know if your partner has found feeding gamefish!
I encourage you to start declaring on this TKF thread if you plan to enter the Tourney, That may encourage current solo entrants to pair up with others. If any solo entrants remain at Tourney time, we'll try to pair them up or will allow them to compete on modified solo terms.
As May approaches we'll assess Shoffer's legal schedule along with long-term weather. We'll try to provide at least 10 days notice of which Saturday is chosen for the tournament. If the chosen date is rained out (as determined by us), we'll postpone to the following Saturday if feasible.
Feel free to tell us if you plan to enter or have any questions. This NIGHTTIME TOURNEY️️ is a work-in-progress, subject to member interest, upcoming weather, our professional schedules & gut fishing instincts.
Hope to see you soon & have some fun fishing at night.
Check out Shoffer's 32" Snook caught yesterday in Florida... Those are not allowed in the Tourney.

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
This Tourney is fun & not formal! No registration. Just announce on this TKF thread if you plan to compete, then mail in your $20 entry fee to co-Director Stewart Hoffer ("Shoffer, the Night Master") at least 48 hours before the tournament.
Read the RULES posted above. The date will be some Saturday night in May, selected for our schedules & best weather.
Try to team up in advance, but solo entrants can double up or be assigned a partner at the Tourney.
Try to help us because this is our first fishing tournament & we're fishing more for fun & bragging rights than trophies.
Hope to see you for our NIGHTTIME TOURNEY️️!

Drifting Yak and I are 2 and so make up a double that will be a team looking forward to joining your nighttime outing! We will strive to be available on the Saturday that is eventually picked or alternated to!

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
Thanks, Yakrunabout & Drifting Yak! You guys are expected to catch a bunch of legal nighttime fish! We're counting on you!
I told Shoffer to get himself back from Florida & help me with this tournament. Stay tuned and we'll announce the future Tourney date as soon as we can.
Let's have some fun, avoid the sun, beat the gun & GO GET SOME! See you soon.

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
Hey Don, Not trying to tell you how to run your tourney but "mailing your entry fee" is not a good idea. It will be better to collect the money at the ramp and then divvy out the winnings of said entry fees to winners. Much easier and you will get more people to show rather than those that did not want to have to mail their fees and not know when the tourney is or if they can come.
I will assist in the funds when I am there as I have done these types of events before.
You should supply each person a small token or a set of letters or other items that all must use to take photos of their catches. Not all want to bring their fish to the ramp and we don't have the time to measure and weigh at ramp in the morning. Everyone will be tired and ready to go home and having to measure all fish will be difficult at best. The pictures people take will have the item, token or write the letters on their hand and take picture with the letters/item in the picture with the fish so that we can tell it was caught that night.
Bring a pad of paper and write all names that show and pay. In the morning when we recover we write down all fish totals from photos of each entrant and be able to see the winner quickly and divvy up the winnings.
Just trying to help you guys out.
Forgot to add...if anyone just cannot make the whole night and needs to leave early for whatever reason, I could motor over to them and get their pics of catches so they can leave if needed. If they win we can PM them here to pick up any prizes.

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
I'm interested but I'm probably also tentative. Might be going on a vacation the last half of May.
Also this needs cleared with the wife who frowned upon the idea last time I mentioned night fishing.
I might be able to convince a buddy to come along but my friends all have never kayak fished lol. Also they only know how to fish live bait!
Actually I've maybe got an acquaintance or two I've meet before, could see if they are up for it.
Maybe we could pot lick off of kicking back LOL!

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
To address KB's thoughts about the entry fee, perhaps we should instead have a meeting place to start the tournament - maybe a restaurant or bar - where people can enter and pay their fee, and they can leave from there to their launch spot.

Re: The NIGHTTIME TOURNEY
I see the logistical issues raised by Lieutenant KickingBack & hereby announce these new NIGHTTIME TOURNEY Rules:
(1) We will collect all entry fees at a "TOURNEY KICK-OFF MEETING" to be held at Waterman's Restaurant at 7pm on the Tourney date of May 12, 2018. No more mailing in of entry fees to Stewart Hoffer. After fees are collected, entrants are free to go night-fishing wherever they desire within the State of Texas.
(2) The Tourney will commence at 8pm and the "Measurement Confirmation Meeting" is at 7am the following morning at Waterman's Restaurant. If the restaurant is crowded, there's an additional open parking area across the street.
(3) Entrant teams are required to submit to Tourney Hosts Hoffer, Pickels or KickingBack a list (the "Fish List") of the fish they have caught & enter in the Tourney. The Tourney Hosts & KickingBack are authorized to inspect any & all fish entered to confirm the accuracy of the Fish Lists submitted.
(4) All money awards, trophies & fishing equipment awards shall be assigned based on the accurate Fish Lists submitted, according to our Tourney rules.
I considered KB's "tokens & photos" approach, but have rejected that as too cumbersome & irritating. We will obviously rely on the honesty & self-reporting of our trustworthy kayaking brothers & sisters!
And finally, I'll beat the holy crap outta any entrants who cheat or make trouble! Ha ha. As the late great Tom Petty sang: "It's good to be King."
Bring on any more questions & comments! This NIGHTTIME TOURNEY is a work-in-progress.
Thanks for your interest.
