Fish ID

Post by shoffer »

A friend of mine had the opportunity to kayak fish off the coast of Puerto Rico recently, and even though he said the hurricane damage was really sad, he was able to get out there and catch some fish. He sent me some pictures, but one fish piqued my curiosity. The picture appears below.

A guy he met at the dock said that it was locally known as a Puerto Rican Blumpkin, but he was not sure of its real name. I sent it to my fishing buddy, DandyDon, and he remembers catching a similar fish as well when he was fishing during a trip to Aruba, but the fishing guide he used told him it was called a Carribean blumpkin.
Any ideas?

It's a blobfish and your friend didn't catch it in Puerto Rico. That exact picture has been floating around the internett for some time.

Shoffer, I did not say it was a Caribbean BLUMPKIN! I think I said Slimy Blobkin. The one I caught didn't fight; it just laid there motionless kinda like my last girlfriend. If I catch another one, I'll fillet it & boil it for dinner. I'll call you.
What's that phone number again?
