Reel Cleaning - Tackle Hut

Post by Yaklash »

I have one reel that I've never really been able to fully disassemble and put back together again properly, so I had to find someone to do that. I read on this site about Tackle Hut on W Little York and took him that reel over a year ago and just now took it back in for some work and a good cleaning.

Reasonable prices, good work, 2-3 business day turnaround and those guys are a pleasure to talk fishing with.

I recommend Tackle Hut for reel cleaning and they have tackle and gear too (seems a little more tilted towards freshwater than salt).

Tackle Hut also does rod repairs; I broke a stripping guide on the ten weight and they fixed me right up. Good folks indeed; very friendly atmosphere in that shop.

Thank you. I open the floor for any others to recommend who they use and what the work quality, cost and turnaround time are.

I think a fair number of us couldn't handle being without our reels for a month while the big shops held them in cue. I think FTU does great work, but their turnaround time was just too much for me, so I started doing my own with the Chronarchs.

That was from me I think. I still use them - quick turn around, seems like good work, and really pleasant guys to talk with and learn from. If you're liking their work Yaklash, I'll just take that as a validation.

It's tiny and out of the 5 times I've been there, only twice was there another customer there. And some of their inventory is years old. I am not saying that's a bad thing, because you can find stuff there that may not even be made any more. But I am amazed they've stayed in business so long with what appears to be so little traffic.

Don't know. I wasn't ever a Pasadena guy. I grew up closest to the original Cut Rate on Telephone Rd.

I have been working in Pasadena for the last 13 years and I don't ever recall seeing anything like that on Strawberry Rd, or anywhere in the city (of Pasadena) for that matter. Not to say it wasn't or isn't there and I missed it but I don't know of it.

When was the last time you went there?

There was a couple of reel repair/cleaning places in Pasadena in the 50's and 60's. Both that I knew about were shift workers getting a bit of extra fishing money. I think they both had a small but steady clientele from the local folks/co-workers. Of course this and me is ancient history now.

Not sure, but you may be referring to Cut Rate, the forerunner of FTU.

Original Cutrate store was on Telephone Rd (SH-35) at Almeda Genoa Rd.

May be thinking of the old Marburger's location??

Marburger's Sporting Goods is now located in Seabrook, conveniently located next to the Whataburger on 146 just north of Nasa Road 1. I haven't been there in a while but last time I was they had reel maintenance services, but I did not use them, so I couldn't say whether they were doing it, contracting it out or what their turnaround time is.

There was a small tackle shop in Pasadena on Strawberry near Southmore Junior High. I used to hang out there in the middle 60's. That's probably before everyone's time.
