Wilderness Systems Radar Opinions

Post by WJH »

Considering purchasing a WS Radar 115/135 to replace my Commander 120. Don't know if I would consider it an upgrade rather than like the option of pedal or helix drive versatility. Anyone have any opinions or would like to share their experience with the WS Radar. Local dealer informed me that there might be issues with cavitation with the pedal drive.

I havent heard of any cavitation issues, most have been satisfied with the radar

Was concerned with pedal drive fishing skinny water, but seems can be disengaged easily when in skinny water. Any huge differences in paddling efficiency between the 115 and 135.

I demoed a Radar 135 for 3 days at rockport and it was a great kayak. Very comfortable and I could stand up all day long. Most stable kayak I've been on.

I did have the helix on my demo but am probably going to get a outback instead because of the mirage drive but I did love the Radar

How does the ATAK 120 compare to the Radar if you fish primarily inshore and skinny marsh

Got a buddy who just bought the ATAK and loves it. From what I understand the ATAK is a better all around Kayak but you do not have the option for the pedal drive. If you went with the radar you could buy the Kayak then add the PD later if you wanted to.

Waiting to give it a try looks like one of the easier pedal drives to actually paddle.

I like the radar as a paddle but its number 3 for pedal, predator pdl was 1 and hobie outback is number 2
