Measuring "Fork Length"....

Been looking at the TPWD booklet and it states that COBIA min length is 37". That is all it states. However, I have seen somewhere that to measure a cobia or other "hard tail" fish you measure "fork length" which is from nose to the "v" where the tail forks.
How have ya'll been measuring them and which is right?

Kickingback, I think that 17 is a typo should be 37 if I'm not mistaken.

Yep, that's the method I'd use.
Besides being a great tasting fish no matter how you cook it, I think they are one of the coolest. They put up a great fight and it is guaranteed to continue even when you get them aboard. They often beat the heck outta everything in the boat too. Never landed one in the yak, and the way those dorsal spines extend and retract might make me a little reluctant to.

Thanks for the replies. I have a ruler on my bump board and it says from nose to fork. Just curious. I caught a 38" measured the way above at the standpipe at Bob Hall two weeks back in my yak and beat him in the head before I pulled him in. Easy as pie. Haven't tried it yet. Froze it for now. AS it is a member of the cod family I bet it will taste real good! Thanks again!

Cobia are only related to the Remora, not Cod, but the meat is very white, and somewhat flaky.
