Storm Surge Ebb Effects

Post by Springfling »

Watching Cindy approach the area, as expected there was a storm surge. For example, looking at San Luis Pass, the water levels were 3 feet above the predicted levels. That is a fair bit of water going over the marsh. Now the waters are receding. Anybody have observations regarding the effects on the water/habitat and, of course fishing once all this saltier water has flushed out of the marshes? Is water really stained or is it "clean" are the fish stacked up vacuuming up critters coming out of the marsh?

Depends on what bay system you're in.. I'd say in the upper bay marshes of galveston it should pull fresh out of the rivers and into the bays a little hard for the next couple of days.. but after that the upper bays should begin to salt up and baring no more storm events will be good for the rest of year until fall.

Fish gorging on outgoing feed.. yeah maybe, but the tide is so high that until it gets a little lower it's not going to be a strong enough flow to really make a difference where it's 2-3' up into the marsh grass.
