Torquedo 403 ultralight vs WS Helix Drive Opinions

Post by WJH »

Considering the Radar 115 and the ATAK 120, going demo at a local dealer next week when they get the peddle drive system and helix drive motor. I know the helix drive is $1999 and the peddle drive is $1,100. My thoughts at least with myself even with wind and chop I don't think going to be a huge difference with paddling compared to peddle. Seem biggest difference would be going from paddling to motor drive, therefore just better to put the money for the peddle drive toward the cost of the helix drive system, $800.00. If I decide to go that route.
Also any opinions on if the Torquedo drive 403 lightweight? $200.00 less than the helix drive and seems easier to lower and raise when needed. Also would not take up deck space and allow you to use the pod for other electronics.

I looked at the Torquedo 3 years ago for my Hobie PA and could not justify 2500.00. I decided if I need power I will go with a 2.5 HSP Suzuki, 29LB, with built in gas tank. Price $775.00 Island Hopper has motor mounts for different types of kayaks.

But the WS Helix MD is similar to a 3.5 hp outboard. Plus with the battery it weighs 15 lbs.

If price is not a concern then go for it. $2000 vs $775.00
