Highland Bayou Today

Post by kingfish »

Today was my first saltwater trip since the hurricane. I got to Louis' Bait Camp, or what's left of it this afternoon about 2:00 P.M. The place is very badly torn up as is most of the area around Bayou Vista. I talked to the owner's son who was working on repairs inside and he said it was ok to launch there. There was a strong outgoing tide all afternoon and I caught 5 flounder, 1 slot red, and 1 keeper speck. I also caught 3 undersized flounder and 1 undersized speck which were released. Every fish was caught on a Redfish Magic and I think the color was nuclear chicken with a chartruese head. Nothing was biting on gulps, spoons, topwaters or anything else I threw. A burger and mug of beer from a nearby bar and grill topped off the day.

Highland Bayou

Bclark, today was a spur of the moment trip. I had no work for this afternoon and I checked the tides, they looked good so I gave it a try. Next time, if possible, I will give you a shout. It is a lot more fun fishing with a buddy or group than fishing solo.

ABZ400, today was a better day weather wise, and also on Sunday, there is usually a lot of boat traffic on the main part of the bayou. The bayou and marsh were pretty calm today until after 5:00 pm then more power boaters started showing up.

Man, it ain't fair. I asked my friend (btw, his name is Natt) was it me or him, or the whole bayou had only one flounder? :(

Slime

Post by kingfish »

Thanks Justin, I am gradually getting it slimed, just not as often as I would like. The hurricane really threw a crimp in everyone's fishing schedule, but a few more places are becoming accessible. Maybe I will see you down there one of these days.

Highland Bayou

Thanks all for posting. It was a really nice afternoon being on the water in my yak and catching some fish. I really needed a day on the water like that. I have the flounder, red and trout filleted and frozen and the biggest flounder prepared for stuffing. We should eat well tomorrow.

Wow, Bclark, Nashville is a long ways from any saltwater. I guess you will be ready to hit the salt when you get back to Humble. I just live about 10 miles from Humble. Close enough to get together for a trip to the coast. At least you can read about fishing online and look at pics of the water and the fish.

Highland Bayou - Stuffed Flounder

Post by kingfish »

Here is a pic of the final chapter for this fishing trip. Still lots of fillets to grill, but the stuffed flounder was great along with a cold beer.

Flounder

Post by kingfish »

You guys are making me hungry and I just had stuffed flounder last night. Too bad it didn't include some redfish fillets and crab claws. Tomorrow night is Mexican food and cerveza night, how boring, I need more flounder.
