Re: WAS IT A TOUGH SUMMER FOR YOU THIS YEAR?
Been tough for the last two years. My son and I have been in the yaks only once in the past two years. I hope that I'll be strong enough to do some fishing this fall. I have been living through every one's posts. Thanks guys and gals too!

Re: Final episode of Pelican castaway owners
I've been on this earth a long time and remember in the 50's when the Japanese were famous for making nothing but cheap junk to export. Look how they evolved in all fields like optics, machinery, motor cycles and lastly automobiles. If the people who make the Pelican don't realize right now that the...

Re: X-factor owners
Shell Pad, how did you get the correct shape?? figure where the supports are going to be. I marked off 1/2" increments on the bottom brace and measured the distance from the bottom brace to the boat. I then loaded these measurements in corel draw to create a temporary brace. I cut it out of ca...

I used to use homemade saddles made from 2 x 8, covered with marine carpet and mounted on metal sides to fit a 1 1/2" steel tube overhead rack http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae189/shellpad/IMG_8554.jpg When I converted to a trailer I used malone sea wings http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/...

Re: Best trailer to get for someone with no welder/heavy tools
Here's my solution. I took some 1/4" plate, cut, ground and drilled out to fit the malone sea wings. http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae189/shellpad/IMG_9511.jpg I welded this to 1 1/2" square tubing which was my cross beam support. http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae189/shellpad/IMG_9...

We Found No Tarpon In Belize (San Pedro)
Belize is a fisherman’s paradise in Central America. Located next to Guatemala with most of the country east coast exposed to the carribean sea. To the east of Belize lie the Ambergris Caynes (pronounced Keys), a coral reef that runs from Mexico to Honduras. We landed in Belize City and flew on a co...

Re: Recommend a spot in Belize and/or Key West...
I'll be in San Pedro, Belize tomorrow afternoon. My youngest son and daughter are taking me on a farewell tour. I've never caught a tarpon nor a bone fish. We plan on fishing friday. If it's good, we'll do the same on Saturday too. We'll return to the states on Sunday. We'll take plenty of pictures.

Re: kayak questions
Going out just paddel hard hard hard. All rods flat on the deck lashed down. Going in---I used to swallow hard and go for it. On occasion I would swim it in with fins. No more.---Read up on a "series drogue",,, google it. They are available on ebay. Like $1.50 ea. I have used a series of ...

Re: Leaking Malibu X-13
You can contact "Carey@MalibuKayaks.com" Tell her your problems and specify x-13. They will send you a set of foam blocks (5 total) called "Casting Platform" with installation instructions. I've place them on my x-factors but "gooped" them in. They have a tendancy of fa...

8 Mile Road Beachfront 09/12/09
My son and I fished the beachfront at 8 mile road. We met Crazy Yak & his family. Nothing to brag about except a bull red my son caught on 14 lb test.

Re: Quick Galveston Beach Front Trip
My son and I did the same at the beachfront at 8 mile road. Beautiful water but no fish. After a couple of hours we transported the yaks to sportsman road with the same result. Could it be that the almost full moon gave the fish the ability to feed all night rather than in the early morning hours? I...

Re: Vapor 10 Angler Umbrella Rig.
Nice. I used a longer tube for my holder using a piece of pool noodle slit down the side to be able to adjust the umbrella up and down. Be sure to secure the umbrella with a safety strap. I've had mine blow away a few times.

Re: Storage for rigged leaders and artificials...Any ideas?
Those small jewelry size zip bags are much cheaper at Wally World in the craft section. We've been using them for years, even when I had my PB. For treble hooks on arties, we use the end caps from Bass Pro Shop. We used to use a sponge/sanding pad from Wally World in the paint department. They were ...

Re: malibu vs cobra dealers
Both are great kayaks. We bought Malibu because of a closeout price on the xfactors. Dealer went out of business not long afterwards. I believe that malibu was imposing greater minimum quantity purchases that had to be spread along all of their lines while shedding dealers who did not have a dedicat...

Re: FISHNDIVE OR X FACTOR
I'm 64, 5'8" 172 lbs. My son is a little taller, about same weight. We both have xfactors and have no problems either in the surf or back bays. Neither has a rudder. Only problem that I have is the weight when lifting on the racks I built on my truck. The weight seems to be a plus when paddling...

Re: Help me understand tides
I was taught many many years ago to compare not only the time between high and low tides but the level of water between high and low tides. Everyone used to agree that 2 tidal changes within 24 hours was best for fishing. But look at these factors. Suppose the difference between high and low tides a...

We've all been our our knees a great deal in this household lately. We'll say a rosary and pray for you Tim, your father Willard and Mother Joye in our special intentions.
