Re: Have you fished the wichita mountains?
Most of those trails are not easy, but there are some lakes and streams accessible by road. https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A0LEVu8mucRWqUQATjUnnIlQ;_ylc=X1MDMTM1MTE5NTY4NwRfcgMyBGZyA3locy1tb3ppbGxhLTAwMQRncHJpZANiVjIwRHZ1RVQ4V0JESWRFZ2pDTGJBBG5fcnNsdAMwBG5fc3VnZwMxMARvcmlnaW4Dc2VhcmNoLnlha...

LLELA, below lake Lewisville, has tons of carp and buffalo. I saw a ton when trout fishing last winter. I don't think they are grass carp though...not sure.

Re: Live crawfish for bait
I've fished with crawfish my entire life. I usually catch them in creeks or a river. Find water just deep enough for you to see the bottom and turn over rocks. You can catch hellgrammites doing the same thing. Hook them all the way through the tail from the underside to the back, like you would a wa...

Re: Lake Fork Questions
Big soft natural color plastics as slow as you can present them. Fork gets so much pressure that I would never use anything that makes noise. No rattles or clickers on your carolina rigs. I like watermelon color. There is good water all over that lake. As long as deep water is close, fish will be th...

Re: Butchering Catfish
9-13 pounds is a monster channel cat. Most of the ones that I eat are under 3 pounds. I always kill catfish first, due to their spines. I usually just chunk them in a cooler full of ice. If the fish is small, I cut through the rib cage, when filleting. If the fish is bigger, I cut around the rib bon...

Re: Bait Launcher vs. Kayaking Bait out
A Trebuchet seems like a much more logical system for launching bait than a potato gun. If it works though, that is awesome. I want video.

Re: Cat reel
If you use braid, line capacity is not a problem. Not having a clicker is a major problem. Make sure you get the C3 (made in Sweden). I swap my 6500s, between 11 rods when shore fishing to 6.5" rods when boat fishing. Great reels. Southwest Parts in Downtown Dallas always has a good selection o...

Thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate it.
I also need to find a way to transport a 12' long rod from Dallas to the coast. Or else it will look like the rest of my rods with ceramic broken out of the eyes.

Mainly reds, but I would like for this setup be able to pull in 5-6' shark.
Thanks for your advice on the castability of the Penn Senators. I will look into the Avet MXL.

Advice on surf fishing rig
I spent this last weekend at the PortA jetties with a large group of jetty and beach fishermen. I quickly noticed how undermatched I was, when I noticed that others were using 5 1/2 ounce sanddiggers. I came with 11' cabelas predator rods rigged with Abu Garcia 5500s. I broke a one rod trying to pen...

Everytime I make the 90 degree turn in the intercoastal by Conn Brown, I see people camping on that spoil island. Every freaking time. That must be the place to be.

All turbines, coal, gas, or nuclear are cooled with water. The new plant will defiantly cycle lake water.Onelgbass wrote:From the article it is gas turbine not steam. Might not be pulling water for cooling. Booooo

I think it is called suffix performance. I use the smallest diameter I could find. maybe 10 pound test.
Braid sinks. It is easier to fish vertical. It also won't stretch, so light on your hook sets.

Re: drop shot problems
The only time I ever fish a drop shot is over deep rocks. I use a cylindrical weight. If it gets trapped in a crevice, It won't wedge. I still lose rigs, but not as many. I also put a small 6lb leader to my weight (sometimes). I use braid with a flouro leader as well.

Malibu with a Gator Hatch. I know the Gator hatch hatch fits on a stealth and an xfactor. I have been taking my little girl with me on those two boats for 5 years now. She is graduating this year, to her own boat though.

Re: Help on Kayak for River
When pulling over a log, I always liked my WS ride 13.5. It is about 15 years old. Mine has a pontoon style hull, so it stays level when dragging. With my boats that have a V bottom, the boat tilts and all of my stuff falls out. Take 2 or 3 paddles with you. I do the push and scoot a lot in rivers,...

Re: Upcoming Lake Fork trip
Most of the boat ramps are near bridges that have rip-rap. I always have good luck fishing where timber is near that riprap. I fish both the timber and riprap. Early morning on topwaters, and soft plastics when the surface activity dies. I have only tried this 3 or 4 times in my life, so take that a...

The little ones will school all summer on the surface. They are usually in deep water, but on texoma, deep water can be very near the shore. The big ones will stop surfacing (except very early morning) in the very near future. I had a great year on Texoma, as I went 6 times and limited with both ove...

Most people use Hyde boats. I find it much easier to fly cast from a hyde than a kayak.
However, I would use a kayak without a better option.
I think we floated 10 or 12 miles when we went, and it was awesome.

For blues, I would chum with high protein range cubes instead of soured milo, corn, or wheat. Spread it out. A few days before will help, but we keep throwing a little more each day. When I get close to Rockport, it is saltwater only for me, so I have never fished the South Texas lakes for them. I h...

I use a cooler w/ a frozen jug of saltwater to keep them cold.
Stringers suck, because once you need to cover water, it is hard to paddle unless you keep them in the boat.
I tried the insulated bag that attaches to bow, but it is too hard to get too.

I don't know anything about repairing waders, but I did reuse a pair as rainpants and they work great. All I did was cut off the boots/stockings. When it is raining, I wear mine with frogg toggs over the top. It works better than the frog togg pants. I bet I have gone through 4 pairs of waders in my...
