I could send you some of these for a fly rod or under a popping cork.
They've worked for me on reds chasing small baits

Re: Crab Flies
They survived two undersized sheepshead. I was using Loctite superglue Gel control and seems to be less brittle than most and have since switched from the Gorilla glue superglue. Haven't been to the coast since June and I am dying to get out.

Man that looks awesome. You have some skills for sure. I have caught a few rat reds on the fly but not any black drum yet the same to want the fly really still.

Re: Crab Flies
Did up a few more after seeing some smallish fiddlers.
Instead of the usual Mustad hook I went with a Gamakatsu B10 S mainly because they are scary sharp. Small dumb bell lead eyes as well.

Re: Port Aransas South Jetty
Smacks would be fun. I guess they have the possibility of being around the jetties starting next month with light winds and green water. Just don't know what to do with smacks or kings besides catch 'em. The wife usually prefers that I bring something home and mackerel seems like it would be really ...

Re: Port Aransas South Jetty
There wasn't a need for casting distance so much bait and fish activity from right on the rocks to about twenty yards out. We were only about 50 yards onto the jetty. My SA Sonar intermediate at 225 grains was putting me right along the bottom with those unweighted flies (I guess the large bead chai...

Re: SLP 6-3
Sounds like an awesome trip. I spent the same day dodging rain around Port Aransas flinging the buggy whip. Didn't have the luck ya'll did. Those are some very nice flounder I'm pretty envious.

Port Aransas South Jetty
Was down on the Jetty on the 3rd, trying out my new salt rig, a TFO Clouser 8wt matched with a Lamson Liquid 3.5 spooled up with an SA slime line. Caught a few of the smallest reds you've ever seen maybe 10 to 12 inches and a few jacks and one pompano. Thought pomps were usually a winter fishery so ...

Crab Flies
Well I remember a while back professor salt was wearing em out on crab flies so I thought I'd do some up. Cant wait to get back down to the coast and give these a whirl. May be to small for reds and to big for sheepshead as they are a #4 Mustad hook but it will be fun finding out. Crabs II.jpg crabs...

Caught the whites almost in the lake in the first riffles just in from it. They were not up far and were already spawning. We jumped in at the Kingsland slab and it was one heck of hike to get to them.

Cayo Del Grullo & Laguna Salada ( Baffin Bay) March 17-19 2021
Not really a Kayak report, though I had mine with me the winds were just not there, but I figured the more reports we had after the freeze the better. My fishing buddy and I fished both of the major arms of Baffin Bay. On the Laguna Salada we wade fished both drowning bait, tossing plastics and of c...

Re: Fiberglass Fly Rod Questions
Neumie I have an older, early 2000s, Hardy glass rod you may want to try out. Its a 7' 3wt. If you liked it I'd probably let it go for say; take me fishing.

Re: Cold Enough For You?!
My guess is the snook and mangrove snapper took a very hard hit followed by trout and reds. I've caught sheepshead and blackdrum way up the east coast into the cooler months so perhaps they faired better. Not sure if flounder were effected much. I couch though thinking about people across different ...

Re: Redfish Redux
That sounds like a great time on the water. I really love the Texas coast for the birds we get to see while fishing. Have never in all my years seen so many ospreys and the ducks are just plain everywhere. Around Corpus they seem to hug the causeway to avoid being shot.

pink and tan crawling crack I.jpg Pink and Tan crawling crack II.jpg These are based on the "candy corn crawler" done by Backwater flies. I 've downsized their pattern to a #2 hook and went from the E.P. wooly critter brush to the E.P. tarantula hairy legs brush varying the size. I use 1 ...

Man its been slow
Been fairly slow on this section of the board. I've been tying in prep for another coastal trip. Finally got my Lamson reel so I am not having to worry about my Hardy reels that are older than I am. Pretty excited to give some of these a go though they are more or less warm weather type patterns. I ...

Re: Redfish Day
Absolutely awesome. Have caught reds on the fly just need to get on the fly rod. Always to windy when I have hit some of the areas I've been but a UV glue shrimp under a popping cork worked very slow is deadly. Looking forward to warmer weather and getting the flyrod back in action.

Re: Baffin bay kayak need input
I was in the area of this past weekend, specifically on the Cayo del Grullo arm of the bay system in Hubert-Kaufman park. In that park and off one of the county roads leading in there, there are decent places to launch. The boat ramp in the park would be fine for a solo skiff. Water was low with the...

Re: LHL, report
Yep Kaufer pier. Wish that had been a flyrod catch and as thick as the drum were that evening it would have been an evening to do that but the wind was blowing over 30. So far on the fly have gotten trout to 14 and 3/4, sheepshead to 17 and so many mangrove snapper its just ridiculous. The sheepshea...

Re: LHL, report
The black drum were definitely active when I was down last Saturday-Monday in the Baffin Bay area. Caught two in this size range and probably another fifteen or so in the 16 to 17 inch range. Also caught a few sheepshead , and hoards of nursery trout and just under reds. Was hoping to get out in my ...

Re: Still improving - but getting close!
That is one darn good looking bug. I just made it down to the coast las week. Had no success on the reds as I was with a non kayaking partner and limited to walk in but I did manage a few sheepshead right in front the USS Lexington on the fly. I learned that my bugs need to be more durable. The litt...

Anytime I set out to catch a particular species the specific way I want and actually do that I consider it a win. You definitely did that in spades under tough conditions. Great job!

These are what I tie up for damsels. The furled tails are kind of a pain but decided to go my own way on a damsel pattern because no one offers the colors I wanted at the time. Started to them in Colorado on Spinney and Tarryall reservoirs because most of the damsels where purple or and iridescent r...
