Cabo Trip
Headed to San Jose del Cabo from July 15-23, mainly planning on surfing and paddleboarding but hoping to get some kayak fishing in as well. I'm on a budget so just hoping to find a decent rental for a day or two rather than a guided trip. Last time I was there the Costa Azul condo I rented came with...

The Power of Flounder
Caught these a few weeks ago near Cold Pass, just getting back to using TKF, so consider it a late report! Stuffed the two biggest ones with crab meat, jalapenos, small shrimp, cream cheese and crushed ritz crackers.

Re: Cooler to transport quartered deer
I take two 48 quart Rubbermaids and have fit three quartered deer between them, along with almost 20 lbs of ice per cooler. If its over 60 degrees I have to put 10 lbs in each cooler per day. If its under 45 degrees the ice will last for about four days. Just be sure to leave the plug open and drain...

Last deer hunt of the season
Packing now for the last hunt of the season. Three glorious days to put some more meat in the freezer and get away from the rat race! Early mornings and evenings in the deer stand, mid days jumping ducks on the ponds and nights hunting hogs, I'll sleep later. There's room for all God's creatures in ...

Re: surfside area
When the wind is SW and with the surf around 2'+ you have to find protective pockets that hold cleaner water and have smaller waves, ie. base of Surfside jetty and Bolivar pocket.

Re: Still have 2 openings on year round lease in Callahan County
Here's a bump to the top for ya. Guys this area has some geat hunting! I have a lease in 10 miles south of Commanche about 20 miles from this area. The deer a quite a bit large than Hill country deer, we take does that run 130+ and the better bucks weigh upwards of 160. While we don't have Boon and ...

Re: Cold Pass
Like the old Rolling Stones song says " Gimme, Gimme shelter..." I take my Hook-n-Line or Hot Spot maps with me and try to find someplace protected from the wind with a lot better chance for clean water. I won't give out my honey hole spots, but here is a hint, when it is that windy look f...

Fall is coming!
Man I LOVE this time of year! The kids go back to school. The surf get good as the tropical season kicks into high gear. The fishing picks up, first the trout in the surf on those calm glassy days, then the Redfish run and finally the flounder in November. Dove season is right around the corner and ...

Re: When sharks attack
Maybe not exactly on the topic but similar, I just returned from a surf trip to Troncones, Mexico. 30 minutes north of Ixtapa. Areal nice quality break with big swell and virtually no one out. Turns out they have had two fatal attacks in the last year and a half a dozen other attacks from minor to l...

Cold Pass
Wanted to wade surfside or Beach access 6 at Folets this morning, wind was raging at 20 side shore Sw. Went to San Luis launched and paddled across Cold Pass. Stayed real patient, fished from 7:30 til 11 when I ran out of bait. Bite never got frantic but stayed pretty steady, ended up with 6 trout 1...

Re: Galveston Bay 4-19-09 (near the causeway)
First time I went saltwater yak fishing, I bought a bunch or pre-fabed steel leaders, my very experienced fishing partner sneered at the store bought leaders. Twenty minutes into the trip, I had landed 4 nice Smacks and a 30" nurse shark, he had been cut off at least a half dozen times and was ...

Re: EASTER WEEKEND TURKEY AND HOG HUNT
Nice Turkeys an Hogs, I hunt in Comanche about 20 miles southesat of Cross plains, strange thing is even though there are lots of Hogs in all directions from our lease, we haven't had a hog killed in over 20 years, this past November we did see some hog signs, (muddy wallows and a little hair on a n...

Sorry to hear about the break-in. My 2003 F-150 was broken into exactly the same way in the Aldine area on Nov 1. My bow with all accessories and brand new high end cell phone were stolen. I have about the same set-up as you a Model 700 with a Leupold 3X9X40 VX-II. And I've been considering upgrading to a Leupold or Monarch 4X12X50. I compared my scope and my buddies 4X12X50 VX-II side by side at twilight and there was a signifcant difference in the 50. I would estimate that it would ...
