Re: Super TuningQuestions

I replaced the two outside spool bearings and noticed a slight improvement, but not worth the extra cost. ably If your bearings are noisy you probably got some salt in it and needs to be cleaned.... the stock bearings are usually ok if kept clean and use a light oil.... my personal favorite is Recoi...

If this is your first trip on a yak, I would suggest the convention center.....Holly beach can get brutal at times especially alone

Re: Rudder???

I would think Wilderness keeps these as standard as possible to work across the board on their kayaks. FWIW, you don't have to stick to Wilderness parts - on my Tarpon 160, I have Smart Track rudder with Sea Dog foot controls. http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=166886...

Rudder???

Does anyone know the difference between a rudder for a older ride 135 and a rudder for a Tarpon 140?
Thinking of taking the rudder off a ride and try to use it on a Pescador 14

If you are using braided line, you might want to check to see if you line is slipping....if so add a few feet on mono backing on your spool

Re: Theft Prevention

Here's a couple things I'm working on for theft protection. We bought 2 of the long cables and tied them through the scupper holes on all 4 kayaks; one at the front and one at the back. Although I relieve the pressure on the hold down straps, I still leave all the straps attached to slow them down ...

Re: Reel Help

Have not worked on those reels.... I would take side cover off and check the clutch pawl(the small arm that moves the pinion and yoke on spool shaft) and rachet...unfortunately some reels have a cheap plastic pawl that does not last long

Re: Baitcasting Reel: Lew's vs Shimano vs Abu Garcia

I've not seen the Lews, but have worked on many Garcias and Shimanos..Have seen alot of damage from salt (from abuse and neglect) on both brands.. when I recommend a reel. the biggest issue I have is the availablity of parts.. It could be the best reel in the world but, things happen(break, fall off...

Re: The new hotness... 13 Fishing

Tomagus, are you serious? Hookspit does not make these reels, they just sell them. They have their rod warranty on their rods because they build them and sell them in the store along with other fishing apparel. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions without at least Googling it. http://www.13fish...

Just wondering what you would do if you hear your reel screaming as you are flying it back......its not like you can hit the pause button while its in the air....you may have hooked your "fish of a lifetime" and its getting away while you are playing with your toy :? :? :?
