Fish ID

Captured these guys on underwater camera at the third MP rig. Looks like needle fish but stripes don't fit to profile. Looks like houndfish is off the figure as well.
Any ideas?

Re: hammerhead taxes my huge kingfish!

Congrats with this amazing encounter with hammerhead shark Killerbee! This looks like very hungry 8 footer. They always look smaller when under water. I look forward to see some 2+ foot hammerhead dorsal fins sticking out of water never been lucky. Some fishermen reported them showing up here at the...

Re: Mayan Princess 6-30-19

Here are a few snapshots from the surf conditions today with 1 ft swell forecast..Some of you guys might be able to recognize yourself.. Great pics prolog22. It was brutal. I wish I would have found some 1 footers lol. It got worse past the breakers. At one point Sam (Greenyak) was in front of me t...

Re: GreenGloom GraySuits

Get a GPS and look at your track afterwards. Large hammerhead can get you a few miles/few hours sleight ride (as long as you can last they will be pulling and making turns). Will be good memories and records!

Re: upper San Antonio Bay and Alligators

8 foot alligators never took my stringer in sa bay even though they were getting close. There are 13 footers there, they kept distance but, if i saw them even at 100 feet i would have left the scene. Few years ago there was a dead fisherman body found in anwr area, the case is not clear, but who the...

I see healthy 6-7 footers Killerbee. You should be ready for 8-10 footers now!

Re: Report 9/19 BHP

Good luck! I wish I tried this method before I left the rig, I focused on vertical jigging and it did not produce nothing due to low visibility probably..
On the other note, use a braid line, mono will drag the lure upwards.

Re: How to land Cobia

I think the majority of those going offshore in kayak consider themseld to be ‘tough dudes’ rather than ‘faint of heart’ prof. Will see how it works from reports next few years..

Re: How to land Cobia

I liked the idea to hit it to the bottom jaw. Gaff looked ok for this smaller one. Not sure if it will work as the first step for larger 50+ inches Cobia. It would have been a brutal show.

Re: Report 9/19 BHP

Currents were about 0.8 miles/hour near the first MP rig. Something that could have worked is a diver lure with a big lip. When kayak is hooked to the rig this lure could have gone pretty deep just because of current.

Some divers reported this fish attacking them.

Fish ID

Got my underwater camera stuck between legs of MP rig yesterday. What it captured is clouds of this fish that looks like a sheepshead but, I think it is not. Any ideas?

Re: Tripletail tactics..

This is the first time I found this fish but saw at least one report from Prof. Salt when he managed to get it from under the floating tree.
Live shrimp should work but not realistic option offshore.

Found this tripletail on the way to MP rig. He let me come real close. Tried to get him with gulp worms, sabiki and small lure no results. Any suggestions how to get them excited?

Re: Headed down

Got skunked at mp rigs today. No kings biting. No sharks. Lane snapper is still there. Saw a tripletail under floating wood, could not get it interested. On the other note, there was strong sideways current heading north around the first and second rigs. Kings most likely were seen on fishfinder on ...

Great video and nice shots of airborn kings. The might have reacted to the presence of shark. This episode with tangled mirage drive and a shark is a good lesson..

It looks like around Florida houndfish is annoying for local fishermen and eats just about everything. Meat is very good though.

Re: MP rigs Saturday (8th)??

I am pretty sure if get caught by this thing in kayak it would have blown away my glasses and the trip would be ruined.. :D On a serious side, there were two of them, the first one died pretty close to a rig, if it did not, I think the coast guard would have been busy ... Forecast was good for that ...
