Re: Whats your favorite brand of yaks????

It looks like the poll has been fixed because it allowed to vote. My favorite is Ocean Kayak since I'm still paddling the same SPTW I bought back in 2004. It's the best overall yak for a small framed person in my opinion that can handle lakes, rivers, bays, flats, marshes and since it has plenty of ...

Re: perception kayaks

The original 2 scupper hole was not designed for a beginner kayaker. It was designed for an experienced kayaker because it was very tippy, but it was a very fast kayak, the fastest SOT when it came out. Experienced kayakers loved this yak. It's downfall was it didn't have a tankwell and Ocean Kayak ...

But, the inside of the "house" is going to be just as hot or cold as the outside air temperature. The only downside I can think of.

Re: perception kayaks

Nightwing I believe you're right I think it is an old prism. See the TKF logo at the top of this page. That man is paddling the old original 2 scupper hole Prism. That is one great old yak. The original 2 hole scupper Prism didn't have a tankwell. If this yak of your's has 2 scupper holes and no ta...

Re: perception kayaks

Since people are flipping in this yak, my guess is it's an old Prism model. If it has only 2 scupper holes, it's the original Prism. The Prism was a very fast yak, but tippy. Much faster than my SPTW and a SPTW is no slouch on the water. Later models had at least 4 scupper holes with a re-designed b...

Have you tried launching at the big bridge that crosses at highway 146 at Dickinson Bayou? It's not too long of a paddle, but long enough.

Re: Spanish Mackeral

This year I'm going to do an experiment. I usually throw silver spoons for smacks. Lose a few spoons to the smacks razor sharp teeth and it becomes an expensive fishing trip very quickly. But, after watching "Living Waters" videos with him fishing for large sharks and catching smacks, I'm ...

Re: Help choosing between 2 kayaks

You need to demo both kayaks and then decide which which one of the two you like the best. Keep in mind, there is no "perfect" yak. You want to look for the best "overall" yak which matches your needs and wants on where you want to do most of your yak fishing.

Re: How short is too short?

Speaking for myself, I tend to favor long kayaks because they track straighter, paddle easier and since they're not as wide as 11' kayaks, they're faster. With that said, the minimum length I like is 13'. For those that don't know me, I paddle a 14' 9" long, 26" wide SPTW (Scupper Pro TW).

Re: Rockport vacation planned. Where should I fish at though?

The area around Goose Island State Park is good. Ditto for all of St Charles Bay. I know for a fact St Charles Bay is loaded with flounder, but if you get out of your yak to wadefish, it's also loaded with stingrays.

It seems mercury is in the bodies of a vast amount of fish, both fresh and saltwater. At my age of 61, I don't worry about it anymore.

Re: 2/18/11--Galveston Causeway

Two years ago, around the exposed rocks near the Causway, you could catch mangrove snapper, but they weren't there last year, at least not for me and after this years severe cold weather, I don't think they'll be there this year either. I think the cold water temperatures wiped them out the year bef...

Ty,

I use 303 Protectant on my yak. It definitely keeps the plastic from becoming brittle.

Are conger eels good to eat? The reason I'm asking, I've eaten one eel, not a conger eel, caught over here in the US and I didn't like the taste of it.

Re: 2/18/11--Galveston Causeway

Since there seems to be lots of rocks on the bottom at the Causeway, I wonder if using a slip cork would have produced more fish and less snags from the rocks . Do you have any idea how deep the water is at the 4th set of pilings?

Re: Smith Point 2/20/11

A little tip. When the majority of the flounder come back into the bay system, they'll gorge themselves on those small shrimp. A small ultralight spinning rod and reel with some crappie 1/8 ounce jigheads baited with 2" curly tail grubs will kill those flounder. The only problem, the flounder w...

Luis,

I'm guessing your Gamegetter 500s are alulminum arrows with swaged nock ends. I shoot Easton Camo Hunter arrows and these arrows come with a uni bushing for the nock end.

This is the first time I have fished Seabrook. Unfortunately, did not get a bite at all. However, the day was not a total loss as I picked up five pounds of fresh shrimp from one of the markets. Froze some and cooked some up for dinner. Very tasty I loved your "Plan B" when the fishing di...

Since I bowhunt, I like a knife sharpener that can do both knives and broadheads. The KME knife sharpener is my preference.

An excellent video. Very detailed in the explanation of how to rig a slip cork. For me, the most important detail was the mention of the 1/2 ounce weight for the egg float.
