Need a sure-fire jalapeno jelly recipe
I got to hankerin' for some Jalapeno Jelly so I searched online for a recipe so I could make my own. Way too many recipes to choose from. Finally tried one that was simple and followed it to a T and it won't turn into jelly like it should. In the fridge it thickens up some, but not jelly like. The t...

Re: The 65+ years old thread.
OK, I'm in. Phishtech here and I'll be 71 in February. Been yak fishing for about 7 years now and wish I could do it more, especially BTB which I want to do this summer and take some shark meat home for the grill. Tried retirement a few years ago and it sucked so I work part time now to pass time. I...

Re: Anahuac NWR report
OK, OK, back to the subject. I started fishing the Refuge prolly 30 years ago. Fishing was great, took home many a big stringer of Reds and trout. Then after dark you could clean up on flounder with a gig. Schools of Reds would come in at night and it was a blast. Camped many a night at the end of W...

Re: Jig Spinners
I go with the H&H spinners. They're smaller and more compact. I use 1/8 oz. up to 1/4 oz. Owner jig head depending on the wind. They are Red killers for sure. I normally bait it with a 3" Gulp shrimp.
Also, I add a small split ring and small swivel to the front.

They also have a free boat launch within the subdivision you can use.
Re: Surf
Went Friday morning to BA 36 near San Luis Pass and the beach water was still brown and rough with wind out of the east. Drove across the bridge and found a beach opening to try. Water was green to the beach but too rough to wade out very far. Wife wanted to fish (she's no Bass Master for sure) so w...

Brooks Falls Alaska
Check out Explore.org
Live cam of the salmon trying to clear Brooks Calls while the bears pick them off. Must have had a lot of snow melt the last few days as few fish were jumping.
Must have lost enough flow today to cause them to attack the falls in mass. Cool to watch in real time.

Re: Is BTB done at High Island for the near future?
Went to the beach yesterday and the water in close is getting that semi-clear green color, also VERY salty, the freshwater runoff is gone. You can see the color change line about a 1/4 of a mile off the beach. Only problem yesterday was the wind was coming in at 20+ mph.

Need info on San Luis Pass please...
Took the wife to Galveston yesterday and after lounging on the beach we went to look at the Pass to see if we could do some fishing. I haven't been there in years and I started out driving toward the water while next to the bridge, but got scared I might need a 4 x 4. Noticed some paths off to the n...

Re: Pro tip - never let a hardhead into your kayak.
Hate to catch them, but when I do I handle them with my needle nose pliers through the mouth or grab a fin. If the hook is swallowed, they get their head squeezed until they're dead, then I take my hook back. Few years ago took a dorsal spine deep in my wrist joint. Within 1 minute I got light heade...

Plecos can be found in most any bayou round town, there generally right on the bank. Can you catch them on hook and line?, How big are they i know they eat algae and stuff but i could imagine one going for catfish bait. I've caught them uo to 18" long, but only in a cast net. They don't bite h...

Believe it or not, the optical clinic at the VA in Houston will sell to the public, all you need is your prescription.
I got some real nice prescription sun glasses there for $69. They have good prices for add-ons too like polorized, progressives etc.

For more time to relax and fish, try Cagle State Recreation Area. It's 5 miles west of Willis which is just north of Conroe.

Re: A fishing lure so good that even gafftop hit it!
I'm gonna finally do the BTB thing this summer so I can cross it off my bucket list.
As stated above, gafftop are some fine eating fish and I hear tell you can usually load up on them when BTB.
Already got my 16/0 shark hooks and I think I'll go with 10/0 for the bull reds. Can't wait !!
