Re: Marine VHF on inland lakes and rivers?

Well there's lots of crickets so here's what's happened since Friday. Ended up finding a pair of Cobra HH350 marine handhelds for $100 used for the pair. Tried them out some today and think they'll fit the bill nicely. Weather channels are nice too. Little big but oh well. Plan to use them between m...

Marine VHF on inland lakes and rivers?

Is there a need or use for VHF radios on inland lakes and rivers? Besides keeping in touch with people in your group? Are they monitored by emergency service personal? I kayak alone a lot and thought if I got in trouble in the middle of the lake and cell phone wasn't an option, would anyone hear me ...

I'll have to look into that. I hate greasy sunscreen. My wife's got us using Blue Lizard right now but even that's greasy.

$$ for $$ I wonder how these compare to the HooDoo. Seem to be somewhat in the same price range...at least for now.

Sounds like a fun trip. That cichlid is really cool! I've never seen one of those. I'm native to northern midwest so that's not something you find up there. Very cool! Do you guys typically target 1 type of fish, like bass? Or do you have a "lets see what's biting" lure and then fine tune...

Re: Finally caught something

I love having a longer yak I have an ocean trident 15 that cuts through rough conditions. You’re right about the 16 foot you have a buddy of mine has one and they perform their best in the rough conditions. I don’t have a rudder on mine yet I have been considering one just haven’t made the move. I ...

Finally caught something

So I got to go out yesterday for a few hours on Lake Bridgeport before all this rain was suppose to hit. With a lot of help and support from members on here, I was able to connect with a couple crappie. Nothing to brag about but a couple more would have made nice table fair. Regardless, didn't get s...

I’m originally from the DFW area but niw reside in Houston, so most of my time is spent in the salt along the Gulf coast. I'm hoping to try out some bay/marsh fishing one of these days. That redfish/trout/flounder fishing looks pretty fun! Don't hesitate to give me a shout when you do - I'd be happ...

Re: Hoodoo?

Congrats on the catch today! And thanks for the fishing report. I just got my amazon order of some strike king rage swimmers in and a hellbender I'm hoping to rig up on a trolling rig with a roadrunner swimbait. If all goes well, Saturday morning will be the next time I can get out.

Re: Hoodoo?

I was just out at Wise Park around 10:30 this morning showing my son so as soon as my wife lets us, I can bring him along. There was only like 3 trailers at the boat ramp. 1 RV and 2 campsites. Basically had the place to ourselves. Also wanted to scope out the water level.

Re: Hoodoo?

Yep, that's the one, right by the golf course. Last time I went up there it was low water and no wind. Water was very stagnate. Wouldn't want to dip my toes in if you know what I mean. I think it'd be a nice paddle after a good rain to kinda clear it out a little bit. Speaking of the trails south of...

Re: Roll call

I'm west of the FW area, Paradise actually. I guess my normal spots are Lake Bridgeport and the LBJ Grassland lakes. Mainly Black Creek. I tried Cottonwood but haven't had any luck and never really mark fish there either. Tried the Brazos below PK once and would really like to hit it more and get it...

Grace Fellowship in Paradise. We have grade-school kids and they really love it there. Most of their friends go there.

Off chance have you ever tried fishing that paddling trail on the south side of Bridgeport? I've been on it a few times with no luck. Heard it's mainly packed with gar and carp.

Re: Hoodoo?

I gotcha. Brandi's is a cafe off 114 by Allsups. We ate there after church. Very good food and best prices in town by far. 2 adults and 2 kids and we ate for under $35. Can't even do that at fast food joints anymore. lol.

Re: Hoodoo?

That is a big bonus being the lake has so many geographical features to it.

I don't suppose you were at Brandi's today around noon? As we were leaving I spotted a pretty sweet Old Towne in the bed of a white truck.
