Lake Conroe Lights?
Gentlemen, I'm apprehensive about fishing Lake Conroe. From my limited experience with this fishery I think the boat traffic is obnoxious and that it would be especially dangerous for kayakers. However, I've never been there at night and am interested in testing out fishing dock lights around the la...

Flounder after Harvey
What happens to the flounder after the bay system gets a freshwater flush? I'd imagine the flounder will follow the bait out to the Gulf early. Anyone have experience with this? What was the flounder run like after Hurricane Ike?

Nice. If either of you, or anyone else, plans to go there tomorrow, please invite me. I'm not in The Woodlands and have been wanting to explore Lake Conroe for a while.

Re: Kayak guide
...unless you really believe you can compete with the pros, why bother?... One comment I had while reading this: perhaps I am not the best at picking fishing guides but I am more likely to be skunked when fishing with a guide than I am with a TKF member chosen at random! I think the major advantage...

Re: Highlands Bayou
I have never launched from that place but I have driven past it and have seen people parked there to fish or catch bait . One caveat, it may be too shallow there to reliably paddle in or out.... I agree with all of that, but if you really want to fish this area, I think you are better off going ano...

Re: I want to improve!
I didn't read anything here I disagree with. I've saltwater fished for less than two years and while I'm not great, I never go home skunked (okay, very rarely). This is because I have found people who know what they are doing, and I do it. I buy the gear they recommend, tie the knots they recommend ...

I should also say...
Nearby there are two great places to launch. Louis bait camp to the north and the public access boat launch next to Fat Boys to the south.

I want to exhume this string (after 7 years!) because I just moved to the woodlands and am excited to fish the area. Those of you familiar with fishing Lake Woodlands, what is a good target species in the Summer and Fall?

What were you using to catch them? Saturday I fished the lights protected from the wind (in the canals) and wasn't so productive (5 keepers and about 9 or 10 dinks).

Re: More of a story than a report
Neat topic, to answer the question, "what does a day of kayak fishing look like?" I'm new to this too, but I can say I have three different "days" of kayak fishing. 1.) The milk run-- The routine trip when I know the area well, I know the fish are there and I know how to catch th...
