Re: gas motor(2.5HP) on kayak

Here's how I put my 2.5 HP Yamaha on a fishing kayak. Simple and cheap... 3x3x1/4" aluminum angle, a 2x8 for a motor mount and cheap boogie boards so it doesn't roll over from the weight of the outboard. (learned that one the stupid way) Removable with 4 6mm nuts. Here, it's parked on the Rive...

Re: gas motor(2.5HP) on kayak

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRkRnt907zQ Check this out. We put a 2.5 on a Ride 135. It works and when we get to the spot we hang the 2.5 in the milk crate to get it out of the way. I moved to the Solo Skiff but this worked for me for a while. This is a friend of mine that rigged his kayak like ...

gas motor(2.5HP) on kayak

Hey guys, Thinking of putting a Suzuki 2.5HP gas motor(30lb) on my perception pescador pro 12. Wondering what you guys though about that. I know this upsets the kayak purists, but I need a motor to get to some faroff spots down here in LLM. Will register as boat if it happens. Motor: http://www.suzu...

trolling motor mount?

Hey guys,

Bought a 36 ft-lb trolling motor for the yak(pescador pro 12) do I need a motor mount or can I just mount it straight on the yak? Figured there shouldn't be too much vibration. Thoughts?

Re: Boating Etiquette

Yes, and not just boats, but waders and kayaks, too. I’ve gone both routes, saying something and not, one time almost got in a physical altercation, but I can’t think of a time where calling them out so to speak provided me any real satisfaction. In cold pass, I was staked out in the kayak and had ...

Boating Etiquette

Have you guys ever had a large boat park right next to you (within 10 yards) after catching a fish? If yes, did you tell them something? This happened to me at san luis pass the other day, felt like speaking my mind but figured they could easily flip me if they saw me later on. :? kind of the bicycl...

titlum tatlum skunk

Went out yesterday to Titlum tatlum and couldn't get any bites. There were a TON of mullet. Saw one guy pull in a flounder but otherwise nobody was really catching. Anybody have any success in the SLP area yesterday?

Re: Late Report - 4/11

Spot on by my man, MWatson. I kept 8 specks (16 - 18 inches) and landed at least 30 specks in that roughly 3.5 hour window. I could have easily kept a (current) upper coast limit but we were catching them so fast I threw back several 15's. One thing I noticed was that those causeway fish fight WAY ...

Re: Wading Spots

Thanks everyone. I won't be disturbing any birds, there's a road for visitors that allows you to drive in near snake cove. Since it's really a long way out to Snake Island and I don't have a kayak right now should I just stick in the cove? How do wade in to the Cold pass pier? I see that all the ne...

Re: Ernie's Bait Barn

Lots of fish activity, caught 3 trout and a flounder. Caught one on a swimming fluke and all other ones were on a mirrodine. Then the tide movement stopped and the bites stopped. Outgoing tide. Biggest trout 19 inch, Flounder was 18 inches(Somehow I caught it on a Mirrodine, not jig). A Kayaker too...

Nice report! I'll have to look into your DVD's since I really need to accelerate my fishing knowledge. Were you able to get to those spots via kayak or just straight up wading?

Re: Galveston West Bay 3/2

Went out with my brother in Galveston West bay with a bit of a late start. Hit the water around noon hoping to catch some reds. There was bait moving everywhere but we really couldn't find the slots ended up catching about 15 rat reds a piece until the tides changed. Outgoing tide started around 2p...

Re: Christmas bay 2/3

Better luck next time. Try HEB for the guaranteed fish. That is why I don't like fishing open bay -- when it churns up, fishing turns into a grind. Or you have to bounce around a lot looking for feeders, which is hard to do in a kayak. Yes!! Can't bounce around in a yak haha. Think I'll s...

Hey guys, just got back from christmas bay, paddled all the way to N. shore and waded. Nada, was using live shrimp and caught a ray. Used live shrimp for most of the drifting (since someone gave it away at the launch :D ) but wasn't getting any bites. Couldn't believe it. Caught a flounder on gulp ...

Took a little trip by myself on New Year's Day to celebrate my birthday by relaxing a bit before our guest showed up. Old report 12/22 Baffin Bay

Late report, but better late than never right? 1st time kayaking baffin bay, did it at night. Lot of fish activity, caught the red on a glo tandem tipped with some shrimp, and the spec on a minnow tandem rig. About 3 hrs of fishing before it got too cold for me and I decided to call it a night.(didn...

Re: Christmas Bay, Freeport TX Dec 15, 2018

I went Christmas Bay Saturday, 12/15/18, and the water level was extremely low. Lowest I've ever seen it. With all the north winds it blew the water down & out of most of all the marshes. I had to pull my mirage drive in my outback in the middle of the boat cut headed to Churchill Bayou because...

Decided to go fish yesterday 12DEC18 with the wife and oldest son. Headed out to South Bay in the Lower Laguna Madre. Turned into an area with lots of bait (mullet) and stopped when I saw a red. Unfortunately, by the time i came to a complete stop I went over a school of about 10 -15 reds. I usuall...

Re: South Bay Red Fishing

Boats are just giant kayaks anyway... with bigger peddle propellers    I think you're going about it the right way, it's not like your fishing the spoils in the middle of the bay. I don't use a kayak anymore but I will tell the gang here if they can reach the areas I fish with a y...
