Re: Hobie Lynx test drive

Picked one up and drove it home. Shop in Jax Florida said his initial order was a 100+ and that he had been after hobie for a while to get something lightweight. Said he is selling a bunch of them. Also that he sells a ton of the Hurricane kayaks. Lightweight sells. Now the bad, my wife jumped on it...

Going to test one on Sunday unless it is sold. Biggest concern looking at it is hull slap in wind chop.

Re: How Far Should Plan On Paddling To Your Fishing Spot

As said, wind and tide. To use the example of a lazy 3mph paddle, if the tide change is also three, then it is no longer a lazy paddle. Don’t neglect the wind, and look at the “forecast “ to see if it switches direction later in the day. These days I try to limit it to a couple miles as for some rea...

Re: Line selection for inshore Kayak Fishing

I use 10lb invisibraid or suffix 832 or Superslick V2. Leader from 15-30 depending on water clarity and oysters. If stained water, mono leader is fine. For around structure you can step up to 20 lb braid if you want. Most 10lb braids break around 30lbs.

Re: gas motor(2.5HP) on kayak

In addition to a kayak, I also have a solo skiff. I have a homemade troller setup on my yak. As I have gotten older with shoulder problems, I take the troller most trips (Maybe after shoulder replacement I won’t, who knows). Gas vs electric. If you are just running distance, gas. If you do a lot of ...

Re: Fly rod for tailers?

Thanks guys, I did send an email to TFO a d they recommend a PRO2 or mangrove. I have been really looking at 6 and 7 weights more (my shoulder is trash) and wasn’t sure how they would do in the grass. Or what budgetish reel to pair with it I have a 10wt that I used to use floating for strippers that...

Fly rod for tailers?

Just starting to try fly fishing for reds. Typically sight casting around grass, looking for a rod recommendation to see what others are using.

Has anyone tried one of the chicom brushless trollers? Like the Haswing protraur 1.0? Interesting they have the controller in the motor housing and they look quite compact.

Re: Trolling motor?

The bixby is one heck of a small package. I talked to one old dude (I’m 60 for reference) who had one on a wavewalk and loved it. Be interesting to see how your 775 motor experiments work out. Figured sooner or later someone would print a lower housing designed for one of the low Kv motors and the c...

Caster 30lb sufix or prospec Spinner 10lb invisibraid until I hit a 4k reel then 20lb, 5k reel 30 lb. i use a 1k-3k spinner or small caster most of the time. I hate mono on spinners and apparently I am too incompetent to throw fluro on a caster. 10lb in invisibraid breaks at 30 something pounds. Jus...

By question on the shoes with drains, do they allow muck and oyster points in? I have never seen the soft science etc in person. My Keene’s let everything in, so limited location use for me.

Re: Best Kayak/Fishing Shoes

I live in land of oysters and muck

NRS paddle boots (wet) and boundary boots (dry) are my mainstay . Keen water shoes for general paddling, but not for muck or oysters. Usually have the paddle boots in the yak regardless .

I have not tried the NRS workboots

I don’t know if they have separate leds or just use aN internal voltage change To increase brightness. ...

87 here in FL today, skeeters are horrible!

I put the lami on my Christmas list, is it a 50/50 split (the cork handled SST is a one piece)? If it is a 50/50 split I would just leave it in my underseat toolbox, just in case....

Re: Your dream inshore casting rod

Ron, I picked up this rod as a cheap alternative to the Lami you showed to see how I like the action of a Salmon rod. Very nice for the $70 I paid. I can throw the weightless TSL pretty darn far with less effort than my previous rod, which was too stiff. No decent size fish yet to test the backbone,...

I don’t know how the brightness would compare to the lexan rod, but Nite-Core makes diffusers for different flashlight head sizes. I think they are like 6 bucks.
