Catfish Reel?? Need to buy; don’t know which one.

What is “the best” catfish reel? Loaded question because everyone has their own opinion but I need a couple and can’t figure out which will do a great job long term with few or no problems.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. I appreciate them!!

Good Article on Alligator Gar, Texas Monthly

Thinking on Alligator Gar has done a 180 degree turn from the past. I remember years ago when members here worked to get a limit placed on them for control of over fishing that would destroy them eventually, as has happened over most of their original range. I reading this article in Texas Monthly a...

Re: A Different Kayak Sonar/Depthfinder/Fishfinder

I saw a fellow on YouTube who just set it on the side of his kayak with the little unit they sell to hold it. He bent the head into the water surface and paddled off. It looked like a good image and he did well. THat’s all I know about it, but really thought it was interesting. It sidesteps severel ...

A Different Kayak Sonar/Depthfinder/Fishfinder

Has anyone used one of these. If so, how do you like it. What do you think of the concept?

https://deepersonar.com/en/kayak-fishing/

I saw it used in a video on YouTube. It appeared to work well with the visual coming up on your phone.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Mythman

I always enjoyed Mythman's exploits and posts, but I haven't seen any lately. Did I just miss them or is he not posting? I did a search and the last post I saw on that was January 23, 2017.

Anyone know if he's still on TKF?

SlowRide/Dean in Aransas Pass

It has been several years since I saw Dean and his wife. When this happened, Ihave been wondering how they are doing. Does anyone know if their building and business are still intact and they are okay?

Thanks!!

Northwoods Angling, Gar & Catfish

I got an email this morning from Outdoor Hub with several links. On one I hit another link and ended up at Northwoods Angling. Below is a link on a trip they made, coming from up north where they live, to the Trinity River for gar. Below that is one of them catching a couple of large cats. Take a lo...

Re: Whitney Spillway: Bassin Legends

I've had to paddle up the river in 3000 cfs because I wasn't floating all the way to Waco .
Thanks!! I'll bet that was a lot of fun!! How would you rate the danger factor when that happens?

Re: Whitney Spillway: Bassin Legends

How are you judging when to go on the Brazos below the dam with the new release method? Are they giving any warning and waiting period before release? As I understood, they were not. If not, how are you handling an immediate release of 3,000 cfs, if you are wading or kayaking just below the gates? I...

Re: 411 on Brazos River below Whitney Dam?

I don't have a link but they have changed water release at the Whitney Dam. They used to give a 20 to 30 minute warning and then release at varying rates. About 4 to 6 months ago, they changed the rules, and apparently now there is no signal, and water flow goes from little or nothing to 3,000 cfs. ...

Re: Columbus - Colorado River - Canoe

It is amazing how much sand the Brazos and Colorado Riversmcan lay down during these floods!!!! I cannot figure our where t all comes from. Anybody know?

In some places, it is like being on the coast. And, wheeling or pulling through it with a kayak is tough.

Re: Peacock bass spots near Bryan/College Station area?

I live near Trading House and I have never heard of anyone catching a Peacock Bass. I suspect they require warmer winter temperatures than we had during the stocking times, or now at times, but that is just a guess. There were a lot of redfish while the power plant at Trading House, but once they st...
