Re: We are our own worst enemy....
Just curious, but is it legal to launch a kayak on a chained off area? I've seen numerous private launches with chains barring entry to boat trailers that I'd love to use, but always figured it's illegal. Bottom line, normal trespass laws apply. Obey the signs, or take your chances. Texas is kinda ...

Re: We are our own worst enemy....
Never heard of the ramps banning kayaks...Specific locations anyone? Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk I've seen at least a couple in the Galveston area, and I think Waterman's was one of them. When I asked a guy at one of the bait camps, he said that the kayakers had pissed off the boat guys by...

Re: We are our own worst enemy....
I haven't heard about ramps banning kayaks from launching but not surprising. I've been seeing what you're talking about for years. Saw it again yesterday at Decker in Austin. This guy backed his truck down the ramp and stopped just shy of the water but still blocking the ramp, got out and unstrapp...

We are our own worst enemy....
There are some boat ramps that now ban kayakers, and there are unfortunately some legitimate reasons why. My son was trying to launch his boat Saturday morning at the Brazoria County public ramp, and kayakers were blocking both ramps. On one side was a guy who backed his kayak trailer down the ramp ...

5 things that will make you a better kayak fisherman
In no particular order, I see things on Youtube and out on the bay that make me shake my head. These five things will make you a better fisherman: 1. Fish early. I can't count the number of times I'm coming back to the launch at 10:00AM with a good stringer and there's a group of kayakers just getti...

Where to park to fish Pelican Island?
I want to fish the shoreline on the Galveston side of Pelican Island on the West side near the bridge. I don't see any public parking close to there. Where do people park, because I see people fishing there?

Re: FTU Sugarland location
I've been told that that store is really pulling FTU down, and hasn't been profitable since it was opened. My guess is that, when the lease runs out, that location will close.

Re: CARANCAHUA COVE..
Caught my biggest stringer of trout in there in April on a black topwater before daylight one morning. It has changed a lot since then, and I've not come close to duplicating that. At one time there was very little pressure there, but there is now. If you can paddle to some of the more remote south ...

Re: Fishing should be outstanding this weekend....
Just as predicted the fish were schooled up. I got into one pond with at least three large schools of redfish and just hammered'em. There were other schools working the bayous and got a 4lb. flounder to boot. Judging from what I saw at the LSKS, everyone did well.

Fishing should be outstanding this weekend....
You have a combination of factors that should lead to good shrimp movement out of the marsh and good schooling and bird action. Tides have been running as much as three feet above predicted due to the southeast wind and low pressure. That flipped last night, and tides are falling toward predicted le...

I've had a Calcutta DC for a long time, used it in saltwater a lot, including dunking. It hasn't been perfect, but there's never been a problem with the chip.

Re: jackson coosa fd opinions?
The main draw back of the Coosa FD is the friction in the drive. It has far more friction than any other drive system, and that's no fun on a long outing. Do yourself a favor and play with several drive systems. The kayak salesman at FTU showed me how bad it was in the Coosa as I was about to drop s...

I've only seen one Viking on the water, and, when I was told what they cost, I couldn't believe it. I mean it was nice, but about double what you could get from another major manufacturer. To each their own.

Re: Sight Casting Schools of Slot Reds
Ah ok. So you even use a swivel with the Johnson Silver Minnow? That is what I was using yesterday with the swivel but it was spinning around when I retrieved. I guess that is ok though. I was working it by giving it a pop-pop, then reel in slack and let it sink. Sometimes I'd reel, get the line ta...

Re: Sight Casting Schools of Slot Reds
I don't add a tail to my spoons, because I believe that it detracts from the action. I use a good swivel with a Tony's twist attachment. I've found the regular snaps to be extremely unreliable, especially the safety pin variety. Thanks for the tips. I can't figure out what a Tony's twist attachment...

Re: Sight Casting Schools of Slot Reds
Copper and gold work best for reds, silver for trout and spanish mackerel. I tried a black one last night in muddy water with no luck. How are you supposed to rig them btw. I had the weedless spoon connected to a swivel snap, with a yellow gulp 3" swimming mullet on the hook end. The spoon was...

Re: Sight Casting Schools of Slot Reds
I enjoyed the video. I've not had luck with a spoon yet, but I normally default to a paddle tail on a jig head like everyone else heh. I throw a 1/8oz weedless gold spoon. normally tipped with a grub type plastic, or gulp swimming mullet. I hear the copper color is good too. Copper and gold work be...

Re: Sight Casting Schools of Slot Reds
Do you really think that’s all that innovative? You need to read a book by Rudy Grigar named “Plugger”. People have been throwing spoons in the marsh for at least 70 years. I caught my first redfish on a spoon in the seventies, and I’d be willing to bet that more have been caught on spoons than all ...

If you really want to beat the crowds, and you can't fish on weekdays, be willing to paddle a long way to a place that is too skinny for boats.

Went to POC last weekend, lots of small fish, caught 3 keeper trout on Friday, 3 on Saturday, and 2 slot reds Sunday. No trash at the ramp to speak of.Cuervo Jones wrote:How about you keyboard warriors put all this energy into posting a fishing report?

Re: Few fish but plenty of trash
The ability to clean up after yourself has a lot to do with your citizenship or lack there of from what I've seen. Go check out any public soccer field on Sunday afternoon if you don't believe that. The last time I went to San Luis Pass on a weekend, I wanted to throw up. Even animals don't shit in...

There are places just as good. Get out there and find them. You'll be better for having looked.
