Re: Lake Charles, LA help
Just south of Hackberry about three miles, is a public access, Hog Island Gully. It is not open ( on the refuge ) until mid March. You can put in there, and access miles of Marsh, as well as west cove, thru a cut there. You can go all the way out to the ship channel if you like, but you'll have plen...

I can certainly recommend the Reload - I got one a couple years ago and love it - gave my old 14 Tarpon to my nephew, never looked back. Kept the old big Ocean for guests, as its pretty stable, and slower. I don't like having guests out paddle me! All of my use with it has been in the LA marshes, ex...

Re: Madison River - Montana
Fished many times on the Yellowstone and Madison. We used to have a corp ranch up there for entertainment. Talked with a biologist once there - those two rivers have some of the highest fish counts per mile of anywhere. Most, but not all of the fish are within a couple feet of the bank, some will po...

Re: Yellowstone 2016 and other stuff
Nice pics, very cool. I have spent many fall days on the Yellowstone, but further downstream, from around Emigrant to downstream of Livingstone. Awesome scenery and great fishing for browns and cutthroats. I watched my dad at age 74, on his first fly trip there, catch a dozen 18" cutt's from un...

Re: Peddle Drive Kayak + your choice paddle kayak
I bought a Viking Profish reload to compliment my PA and Revo. It's the only kayak I've kept out of the three. While I've never paddled one, I'd also check out the Jackson kayak lineup if i were in your position. -Poo I've had several kayaks, this is the one I am keeping. I gave my nephew the tarpo...

Re: Thank you Mr. Game Warden
I'm guessing it's safe to say there's no fishing regulations in Mexico uh? No - it's just that this is not their country and they don't love it or respect it. Try breaking the law in Mexico as an American - they seem to care a lot more there. Funny ain't it? My brother called Operation Game Thief o...

Re: 10wt Reel Suggestions
Orvis Hydro has been a good reel for me. It's a little more, but it lasts forever, and in these larger reels, they take a lot more abuse. I have not found that saving money equates to a saving in the long term. I've still got an old Fin-Nor reel, that although it is now a decoration in the house, ha...

Re: Mono to Braid Knot
I like the crazy Alberto knot. It is similar to a chinese finger trap, the harder you pull on the line the tighter that knot becomes. As do I. This thing works really well and it flys thru the rod eyes better too. Sometimes, I will rough up the braid a bit with a fingernail, enough to remove some o...

Re: Marsh Reds and Flounder
That particular Gulp bait has been my #1 Gulp for a couple years now. Used to be the new penny 3", but that one has really done a lot better. I found that it also catches the flounder when they are keying on the little glass minnows and shad as well. Very flexible bait there there, catches it a...

You can get the fish smell out of any cooler with Clorox Cleanup. SWMBO says straight bleach works too, but I prefer the CC.

Looked at it - I think I would like to have one of these. Doesn't have to have a sky view, can be wired into 12/24v, can be hidden. Could see a lot of uses for it, not sure where I would put it first. Just got a net cam for trying out, when I figure that out, maybe this is it!

Re: Beware - Thieves Have a New Device
It sounds as if you were the victim of a simple jammer device. I stopped in there earlier this week, yesterday actually, for 15 minutes, and was worried the whole time as my laptop was in my vehicle also. I hate thieves - I had an F250 stolen from a restaurant parking lot there a few years ago, plus...

Concur, with this, 3 feet is plenty. Just cut it back where it doesn't spill off anymore, don't cut the braid back. It is fine as is.stryper wrote:Cut the mono off, 10 yrds is more than enough

I'm new here, can't comment on how it was before, but this is pretty much the premier place for kayak info and exchange. I do admit the vetting process for getting a login and the first few posts, is/was a POS, not explained very well. Would have been some help if that info was imparted when you got...

Hmmm, sounds like he wants his problem to become your problem. That violates Mikee's rule #1 : Always, make sure, that other peoples problems,....... remain their problems. Wife hates it when I quote that, when she is PO'ed about something. On your side - maybe, you can pick up the yak, with the anc...

Re: Battery for trolling motor question...
My buudy picked up a optima blue top for his trolling motor and ended up burning out the neg. wire at the switch while fishing. I guess it was overloaded and ended his day fishing real fast. Almost burnt a hole in his yak. You don't want that to happen btb. ON that note - it is a very good idea to ...

Re: Battery for trolling motor question...
Haven't used that one, but can offer this advice. The battery you posted has only a 35 AmpHr capacity. Typical trolling motor has over 100 AmpHr capacity. By definition, it is only going to last a third as long as a regular battery. Yes, it is smaller and lighter, but battery technology is still.......

Yes, I like them. The guy that owns the company is a friend, he gave me a handful in FL back in April. Used them last weekend to work over a bunch specks, on suspended fish over a reef. Only clear water I found, and those were just the ticket.

Mothership and kayak
OK, went fishing yesterday evening between storms, found a bunch of fish I couldn't get to in the flats boat. I did catch a few, just pecking around the edges, but couldn't get where they were. I decided if the weather was OK this morning, I would stack the Viking on the flats boat, and try again. O...

you are probably not going to like this advice, but I am a pliers 'ho, and have tried a bunch. I like the small set of Orvis pliers, and the Abel ( those are my favorite ), I don't go without one of those on me. The Abel can have the cutters replaced, for $20. Mine are pushing 15+ years, been replac...

Glow Norton sand eels - wire circle/live bait hook, thru the nose, no weight. Flip to the feeders, twitch twitch, when they hit, don't jerk, wait for the weight, then smooth hookset. If you want a hard bait - the Catch 2000 in glow, or a 52M in black ( can't remember the color code ). Don't fish it ...
