Re: TX Hill Country - April 20th, 2024

That looks beautiful. I didn't know such places existed in TX. I guess I need to get further away from Houston.

Re: Jones Lakes 20-Apr-2024

2:08pm: 208.jpg 2:34pm: 234.jpg 2:42pm: 242.jpg Didn’t catch a Red all day. I did see a couple crashing on small shrimp. One of those shrimp actually jumped into my yak. It jumped back out before I could get my phone out to take a picture. I also saw several Alligator Gar swirling on the surface. 11...

Jones Lakes 20-Apr-2024

I purposely got a late start because I didn’t want to arrive in the dark and get eaten alive by mosquitoes again. The plan worked so I didn’t get to test my newly acquired Thermacell. A few yaks and a pair of Solo Skiffs launching about the same time as me. morning.jpg I only encountered one barge i...

7:44 I released a 24 incher. 7;44.jpg 7:59 I released a 23 incher. 7;59.jpg I caught 10 trout in all and 1 short red. 8;36.jpg I saw several BIG reds rolling on the surface just like I did last year. I think they may be feeding on small crab. No other boats or yaks in the Jones Lakes system today. I...

Jones Lakes 7-Apr-2024

Hard to believe it’s been over a month since I’ve been fishing. House hunting and wind…mostly wind has kept me off the water. Wind forecast for today was 8 mph in the morning and 11 mph at noon so I went for it. Mosquitoes were THICK in the morning. I’m going to buy one of those Thermacell things. M...

Minn Kota MK-210P Portable Charger (2 Bank x 5 Amps). $40. Like new. I used to have a boat with 3 12V batteries and could charge two at once with this guy. https://www.amazon.com/Minn-Kota-MK-210P-Portable-Charger/dp/B000MN7EZY/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 IMG_5360.jpg IMG_5358.jpg IMG_5359.j...

Re: Jones Lakes 2-Mar-2024

Forgot to mention that I saw 2 other yakers out there. I think it's the first time I've seen another yak here. Good news...I fixed the Daiwa. I only had to take it apart and put it back together 4 times to get it right. I needed to watch 4 different YouTube videos to find out exactly how every piece...

I also caught a 24” super trout and a 17” Black Drum. 24 trout.jpg black.jpg The most fish I’ve caught in one day in TX. Need to get the Daiwa fixed. I really like that reel. Water had risen by the time I exited the lakes. I pedaled at 3.2 mph on the way out and 4.2 mph on the way back. water level ...

Jones Lakes 2-Mar-2024

It’s been nearly 2 months since I’ve been fishing. Lots of high winds and a business trip to Japan & Taiwan kept me on the sidelines. I told my wife not to expect any fish today. Early March and low water levels. I told her fishing should start to pick up in a couple more weeks. I was wrong. I c...

Re: I sure hope this turns out the way it seems

Tackle Warehouse has them on sale now. Available Sizes: 1000 $134.98 3000 $149.98 4000 $157.48 I have two older ones. They worked flawlessly for 15+ years while used for trout in freshwater lakes. After moving to TX, I used one of them in the marsh. Its not flawless anymore. These are really old. Th...

Re: Reel service?

Anglers Anonymous doesn't service reels the size I have.

The owner suggested Fishing Tackle Unlimited, David’s Tackle Box in Rosenberg or Serious Tackle in La Marque.

Reel service?

Can you recommend a place to service the following reels: • Shimano Torium 30 • Accurate Boss Magnum 665H Narrow • Avet MXL 6/4 2-speed • Avet JX Raptor 6/3-MC 2-speed • Avet HX 5/2 2-speed I'm in Missouri City and looking for an alternative to sending the Avets to the factory for servicing. I've lo...

Re: Jones Lakes 6-Jan-2024

Which flavor of MinnowZ was that? Looks very dark. A friend catches with The Deal and Mood Ring, neither of which our local tackle shop seems to have. A Winter Texan friend catches a lot on Beer Run, which are stocked here, but are always sold out. I have few left. I also catch now and then on Open...

If unsuccessful, you need to get closer and make another (better) cast. drain 2.jpg I landed a forth slot of the day at 2:23. 1423.jpg Of course it was the biggest and had to be released…I’ll catch it again next time. I stopped at this drain in the morning with no success, but I have landed a slot R...

Re: Jones Lakes 6-Jan-2024

It was a 4 hour grind until I was bit again in one of the back lakes at 12:09pm. I’m thinking water temperature had something to do with it. It was 55-56F most of the morning in most of the places I was at. I hooked this fish after the waters finally warmed to 60-61F. 1209.jpg With a light wind at m...

Jones Lakes 6-Jan-2024

The ramp was packed again. A mix of duck hunters, tournament participants and kayakers. Even though I arrived before sunrise, almost all of these folks had already launched and there were a small number of spaces left to park vehicles without trailers. This was the tide prediction for the day: tide....

Christmas Bay 17-Dec-2023

I got an early start, but it turned out to be a waste of sleep. It was very windy upon arrival to the launch at 6:15 am. After contemplating the conditions, I got back in the truck, reclined the seat and sat there for a half hour. After watching a few other yakers push off, I built up the courage (o...

Thailand and fishing are equally very fun. I'm planning to retire there in a couple of years and am part of the Hua Hin Fishing Club Facebook page. I passed a Red just sitting on the bottom today too. I got within 2' of the guy and he didn't move. It was only when I reached for my net that he took off.

Christmas Bay 3-Dec-2023

I’ve been in Thailand so no fishing for the last month. It’s been several months since I’ve been back to Christmas Bay. Mosquitoes were thick at the launch, but never bothered me once I got going. It was nice not having to paddle 3 miles before making my first cast. After missing one bite, I hooked ...
