Re: Fly Box for the Salt

I use old pill bottles placed in a small shoulder (or belt) bag. When I replace a fly I've been fishing with, I let it dry on a strip of fuzzy cloth (?) that I have glued to the inside of my kayak. I used a 2" square piece of the loop side of some sticky-backed Velcro for the same purpose. I h...

That is gorgeous!
It always amazes me that the originals of these ties were intended to be fished! I don't even like tying deer hair flies because of the time (and materials) involved. I can't imagine casting a modern salmon fly to fish, lol.

Re: Fricking geese

If I were in Austin, the Libs would break out the tar and feathers  [emoji38] At least they would use the geese for the feathers. All you can really do is do your best to ignore them. They won't really hurt you, except to give you a ferocious pinch or 2. Your gonna leave the area, which just...

Re: Self-powered live well for kayak (hobie in particular)

This is a fun project to think about! It should be easy enough to test on any scupper, just to see how much head is generated at normal speeds. Set up a pipe and elbow, and see what flow is generated at paddling speed. Keep in mind that some head will go towards keeping the check valve open. My firs...

Yeah, I've seen them, especially out at the weeds, and under the fishing piers. Never had one approach me.
I'm not real worried about them in December. They are mostly in hibernation once the water temps drop.

Headed to Huntsville SP the week after Christmas. It is a great kayak lake. Not only big bass, I caught a just shy of 12" red-headed sunfish there a few years ago. I would out later it would have been a water-body record. Oops.[emoji3] Since last year, I think, you can now keep bass under 16&qu...

Re: Is Tying a Necessary Evil, Something You Absolutely Enjoy, or Somewhere in Between?

I didn't like having to rely on buying flies, especially after I figured out how many I was going to lose to fish, trees, grass, underwater limbs..... I usually bought an assortment, and there were always a few I had no confidence in, and wouldn't use. Of course, once I started rolling my own, I had...

I have tried most of the higher end bobbins, and either didn't like the way they handled, or broke them (ceramic). Tiemco, Wasatch, Dr. Slick.. I think the only ones I didn't try were the Rite Bobbins. Yes, I know. It's a bobbin HOLDER. The bobbin has the thread on it. I just go with the flow, lol) ...

Re: Fiberglass Fly Rod Questions

I have a Wright and McGill 7 wt that I love for everything from 4 inch bluegill up to a couple of pound bass or catfish.
Being a slloooowww glass, it doesn't feel like casting a 7 at. The fun part of glass is it's bendy-ness. Even a little fish puts a nice bow in it.

Fire tiger rooster tail.
Best to give the troots a day or 2 to acclimate before going out after them. They go thru a bit of culture shock when they are transported and transplanted.

BEAST MODE![emoji41] At "normal" stroke rate, my Cuda 12 and I are moving along a tick over 3 mph. Stroked out, I can hit 5.3 mph, but not sustain it. 10 mph has to feel like you're FLYING, lol. (Especially with no particular effort on your part.) I'll have to check out your play list. Kir...

Re: Under line?

Lots of variables involved. Is the rod a more moderate, rather than fast, tip? Is the line one of the half size heavy ones? How good is your casting stroke? As said above, bring your reel and try it with the rod you're interested in. Regardless, you would eventually develope a technique to cast the ...

Once reels became easy to get with the handles on the left, that is all I use. I've had too many occasions where fish blew up on the lure when it landed to do it any other way. Before left hand reels became common, I taught myself to cast with my left hand. I do not want to swap hands after a cast. ...
