Re: N. Lake Conroe - Cagle Launch - 3/3/24

Thank you shoffer, I finally found where they listed the fees for Cagle. Had to dig through the National Forest website to find it. And thanks for the info. Launching from Cagle doesn't seem to bad now hearing it from you. Looking at your photo if you keep going west to where you see that little roa...

Re: N. Lake Conroe - Cagle Launch - 3/3/24

This is my favorite area to fish fresh water. This time of year on that west side is spawning grounds for them big bass. Caught several in the 5-6 lb range there. I always launched from the forest road that dead ends on the west shoreline but the growth has filled in so much I can not get access to ...

Love the Sam Houston National Forest! That area is awesome during the spring spawn! I had two river otters play and tease me for an hour 1 day out from Stubblefield. Coolest thing I have ever seen! I was checking the weather for this weekend and since it looks like a lot of rain and high winds at th...

Re: 10/21-1022 Surfside fish & camp

Excellent. I’m trying to remember if I have seen porpoise in Drum bay before. I distinctly remember seeing a couple In Christmas bay right where Acadia reef comes towards Drum Bay. Those porpoises were so shallow they had to turn sideways to swim. I kind of feel like I have seen porpoises in the re...

10/21-1022 Surfside fish & camp

Well, It wasn't fish after fish on fire. But I did manage a few fish to make the weekend a fun trip. It was gorgeous down at the coast this weekend. Spent Saturday afternoon fishing with no luck at all. Drove on over to the beach side to relax and camp overnight. People out enjoying themselves. Plen...

Re: Late report October 9th Freeport

Thanks for the report. I haven't been on the water since June 23. The planets have aligned finally and I plan on making it down there this weekend. Hopefully have something to report for a change. The heat this year was the most brutal I ever remember. In years past it never stopped me to much excep...

Re: Intel On Boat Ramp in CC

I was visiting a friend that lives on Oso Bay around June 23rd. Haven't been fishing since do to this extreme heat! But we launched at the old boat ramp right there because there was no water in the bay on the west side. It is a piece of cake launching there compared to dragging your yak up the bank...

Re: Stubblefield bridge launching?

Fished just south of 1375 the last 2 weekends and drove up to Stubblefield to check it out. The bridge is nice with a nice walkway to fish from. The boat ramp is just were it always was. The water level is normal with the normal clearance as before I'm pretty sure. I didn't pay that much attention t...

Re: What's up with kayak manufacturing?

I can't find anyone with a tarpon or trident in stock. I can't communicate with manufacturer. Any one else with the same problem? Could it be the 65 or so giant tankers sitting off of California because they can not get anyone to work and empty them? Possibly! I have ordered some soft plastics for ...

Re: Tarpon in Packery?

Kinda funny you bring that up. I just had a customer of mine I was talking to a few days ago said his buddy caught a 200lb Tarpon in South Padre. He said it was the bay although I didn't have time to ask where exactly. He told me he was with a guide and I could call him and get the guides phone numb...

Nice! I had a friend that retired with his wife in a travel trailer at the park on the north side of Nueces Bay. I went to visit him a few times and we got to wake up and walk down to the water to fish. Really nice area. I always envied him of that place! He has since picked up and decided to live i...

Thanks for the heads up on the flounder rule in November. And from what I just read, In the bays and beach fronts of the Laguna Madre (south of the JFK Causeway near Corpus Christi to the Brownsville Ship Channel on the bay side and to the Rio Grande River on the gulf side of South Padre Island) the...

Little fun trip at Surfside, Tx

Did a little trip down to Surfside Saturday. Got there around 12:30 pm. It was pretty darn hot. My fish finder registered the bay water at 90 to 91 degrees! Headed out to my favorite reefs I like to fish. Fished dead shrimp under a popping cork. Started catching a few hardheads right away. Then a 15...

Re: How Far Should Plan On Paddling To Your Fishing Spot

That is a good question. It really just depends on the day and the days forecast. 1 1/2 to 2 miles one way is about my usual. If it is a really calm low wind day I may explore further areas. The weather changes in an instant. I was out with a friend one day and the forecast called for a front to hit...

Re: Lake Stubblefield 5/3/21 Fishing Report

Nice! I love fishing Stubblefield. There is a tree lay down right before you get to the opening where you tied up to that stump sticking up. I have caught a few 4lb - 6lb bass right there. And a little further toward the open lake the river bed runs along the shore line and have found the bass schoo...

I was there last weekend. First, my brother and I hit the 1375 bridge. Next, we went to Stubblefield. We went to the side where the boat launch used to be, lol. I was unaware of the bridge construction situation until I got there. However, we found a path to the right of the construction. We wheele...

[*] Just looking at the Google map pics of that area. Wow, it looks fishy! It is very cool up in there. The fishing can be hit & miss for me, but honestly, I think it was just a learning curve for that area. This past year I have had more success. The largemouth bass seem to always be following ...

Re: I need a Stubblefield Lake bridge update

Been the last 3 weekends up there. They are working on the bridge still. Making progress but looks like it is slow going. Only place to launch is the very corner of the stubblefield lake next to the camp area (and its been crowded) or from the camp area itself. The road is blocked where the rocks/le...

Camping and fishing Lake Conroe, Sam HOuston National Forest

What a great weekend camping and fish Lake Conroe. The plan was to camp at Stubblefield campground and fish the river for white bass. The whites were running last weekend pretty good. Campground was full. Plan B: Drive through the National Forest find a place to camp overnight. Found a spot about a ...

Re: Tent Camping at Matagorda Bay Nature Park

I camped there about a year and a half ago during the summer. Just drive past the welcome center to the beach right on the Colorado River. Free camping on the river. I know the RV park is right there but not sure if they allow tent camping where the RVs and facilities are. You will have company and...
