Looking for new BTB reel
Okay guys, I'm in the market for a new BTB reel. The only real criteria is that I would LIKE us it to be castable. Right now, I'm looking at stuff like the new Penn Spinfisher 6500 LL, Penn Battle combo, Avet SX MC cast, Avet MXL MC cast, Penn Squall 30 or maybe even just the Penn 4/0 combo. Any oth...

Re: I Have Finally Found the PERFECT Kayak!!!
I hope to GOD the original poster was kidding. That 150# turd (yes, it weighs 150#) would NOT be fun to paddle, and looks like it tracks like a #5 tub. It might be cool in a tiny pond, but I wouldn't want to paddle that silly looking thing any farther than around 100'. I saw it at the boat show. It ...

Re: I managed to turtle a PA 14
The PA is notorious for making really sharp turns, and when it turns sharp, it leans to the OUTSIDE throwing your balance off. THAT is one of the reasons I got rid of mine.

Sorry J-Dubs.... Tapatalk no longer notifies me of responses. It was sent to me by Grant Montague (Viking VP). I think that you can order them from their website. It's gone now, and had been replaced with a Jackson sticker.

Re: large arbor reel suggestions
For the price, I would say to look at Allen Fly Fishing. Fully sealed, and my 7/8/9 weight was around $225,plus you get 15% off your first order.

Re: Finding trout.
^^^^ Mac always has good advice. That's why I just got rid of my super fast Viking and got a Jackson Big Rig. Out of a 6 hour fishing trip, I only paddle maybe an hour, and fish the rest of the time. I'd rather be super comfortable during my 5 hours of fishing than be super fast during my one hour t...

Re: Winter kayaking footwear
I disagree.... I was fishing last December. Not sure what the water temp was, but I was dressed warm and it was 48° outside. Moisture wicking long johns, wool socks, fishing pants and moisture wicking shirt, breathable waders, Wright and McGill Big Horn wading jacket and wading boots. I stayed extre...

I had every intention of getting it out for at least a test paddle today, but I came down with the crud that is going around and haven't left the house today.

I ended up getting a 2014 Big Rig. I'm not sure what color they call it, but I like it. I'll see if I can get a picture to load.

Re: Hook Spit Performance Rods Christmas Special
You'll love the 13 reel. I have the Concept A that I bought from Hookspit and it is awesome. You'll have to get used to it though. It's smoother than any other reel I have tried. The folks there are awesome to deal with too.

Re: Scariest thing that happened to YOU on the water???
I went BTB for my first trip out of Freeport. I have never been sea sick before, but then again, I had never gone BTB in a kayak before either. We got a little over a mile out when I started feeling pressure in my chest like puking wasn't far off. I stopped, rested and drank some water. One of my bu...

Re: Pirates Cove Launch?
We parked on the road between GISP and the Marina. The manager of the marina came out and told us that we were launching from his property, and that we needed to launch from his ramp and pay him for the privilege. To the best of my knowledge, the property right by the old stucco house is state land,...

I wear breathable waders with layers underneath (wool is better than cotton), Wright and McGill Big Horn wading jacket, Buff, ski cap and NRS neoprene waterproof gloves.

Looking for opinions on Jackson Big Rig
I'm looking for experienced opinions from guys that own them, not "I knew a guy that had one" or "it looks to me like it....". I want real world opinions. What did you find that are pros and cons in your mind? I am looking for something that I can easily stand in since I have got...

Re: advice on a skinny water kayak
Some of the people missed his point. Some big priorities for him were 1. Adjustable height , comfortable seat and 2. Ability to stand. You won't get either from a Tarpon or similar. He also wants to get away from anything with a drive system, like a Native. I love my Viking, but didn't include it in...
