Re: Possible to launch along AP causeway?
Thanks for the update Neumie. I'm hoping to make a day trip soon but was worried about being able to launch.

Re: Hobie compass
I tested my buddies on Lake Buchanan a while back. It was my first experience with a mirage drive, and I was really impressed. I thought it had a good combination of speed and stability. We both liked that it is a blank slate which keeps the price down. You can add the accessories you want which wou...

Re: Estes Flats today - the sun never broke through
Thanks for the report, Ron. My brother and I did the same trip Saturday but we fished brown and root. Our results were pretty similar just a few small trout. We found a few large schools of Redfish on the flats but they had lockjaw. My fly rod would have been handy in this situation. For the most pa...

Re: Does higher wind make it harder to catch fish?
I agree with Ron. I think windier conditions just make it tougher on the angler but don't necessarily affect the bite. As mentioned, the wind-driven currents can actually help you. This spring I fished a day with almost zero wind. This was a first for me, and I was excited to not have to fight the w...

I am assuming you are talking about Port Aransas? Last week my family was down there for a beach trip. This wasn't a fishing trip, but I brought a rod and some lures. In the thirty minutes or so that I fished, I caught a couple nice trout. I was throwing a silver spoon. I probably could have caught ...

Re: TSL Grasswalker Review
I bought the TSL lures when they first came out last year. I used them a few times with some sucess, but I really didn't have much confidence with them. After hearing all the great reports, and knowing they were designed for shallow grass flats like I fish in Aransas Pass, I decided to give them ano...

Re: Noise on the Water
Most of my fishing experience has been on hill country rivers which are usually deeper than the flats down on the coast. Most of these rivers are super clear so I can see how the fish react. Without a doubt, sound has a huge effect when targeting spooky fish. I'm referring to noise such as bumping t...

Re: Saltwater Spinning Reels
I've had a Shimano Sahara 2500 for 5+ years now and for the money I have been pleased with it. I should note that I primarily use casting reels and it was used a lot more in freshwater than salt. For whatever reason, I have been reaching for my spinning reels more lately. Recently, my Sahara will st...

Re: Spring strategies?
Thanks, Cuervo. My dad, brother, and I made a day trip to Aransas pass yesterday. We covered a lot of water and were able to pick up a few fish here and there. I bet the fishing would have been better in the afternoon as the flats warmed up but we had to leave before that. All in all, it was great t...

Re: Spring strategies?
I have a similar question and instead of starting a new thread I'll add it here. This time of year can I expect the Redfish to be up on the flats? Last year I made the effort to fish the coast at least once a month May-October. I mainly focused on the Brown and Root/Lighthouse lakes area in Aransas ...

Re: What's your funniest moment on the water?
In high school, my best friends (twins) uncle owned a fishing lodge in Venice, La. One summer I got to join them on their annual fishing trip down there. The first two days we were guided by an old salty cajun guide. He was a great guide and a very funny character. At one point he was helping my fri...

Here are a couple examples. Re: Llano River and Perdernales River
do you think so? my Nephew said it was a smallmouth and his much more of a bass guy than me. I only caught my first bass ever a few weeks ago, so I am learning. I can't hardly tell the difference between the bass species. Sorry I’ve been busy the past few days. I identify Guadalupe and Smallmouth b...

Re: Guadalupe below Canyon Dam in mid-November
This will be my fourth year as a Grtu lease member, and it is an awesome program. I have to disagree with Cuervo about the way the trout fight. From my experience, the trout on the Guadalupe are great fighters. They will peel drag, jump higher than a bass, viscously shake their heads, and when you t...

Nice report, it sounds like a nice weekend. I agree I would take a river bass over a lake bass any day. Btw from the picture that looks like a Guadalupe bass the state fish of Texas.

Aransas Pass 10/21/17
It’s been a long day so I’m going to make this short. My brother and I fished B&R Flats this morning for the first time since Harvey. The water was super high and it made difficult to find a spot to park in the dark. The high water also had the fish scattered. It took the whole morning but I was...

Thanks for the reply Ron. I've only had this problem in the warmer months so maybe that's the issue.

Re: What is your favorite fly line but more importantly why?
Ron, I bought the 5 and 6 wt Airflo ridgeline from Sierra Trading Post after you posted a heads up a while back. They were on sale for fifteen bucks or something ridiculous like that. These were by far my favorite lines for my 5wt Bvk. Unfortunately, they seemed to have a problem with coiling up. Th...

Re: Public Land Dove Hunting
Well I made it out once this past week and it was pretty slow. I only had 2 or 3 legit shots all evening. I hit one bird, but I couldn't recover him after spending 10-15 minutes searching the thick brush. I still had a good time, and I now have a better idea of where I should set up next time. Fishi...

Public Land Dove Hunting
This weekend I had the opportunity to go on my first dove hunt with some friends. I had a great time and now I'm hooked! I'm planning on getting an APH permit, because there are a few leases within a few minutes of my house in New Braunfels. From what I've read, it sounds like I shouldn't expect to ...

Most of my bass fishing is done on rivers. I've found that a Texas rigged baby brush hog is hard to beat. I also fish jigs and crankbaits, but I know I can always pick up a few fish with a brush hog.

Re: Aransas Pass 7/13-7/20
Great report thanks for sharing! A couple of weeks ago I picked up a nice Red in that cut between the oyster reefs. Being primarily a river fisherman, I always take the opportunity to fish spots that funnel current like that in the salt.
