Re: Arcadia Reef?
I've fished it before and ran into a school of undersized reds. Didn't have much luck in the area except right next to the reef. Be aware of the wind because it can make the paddle more difficult.

Re: Galveston without the Kayak
I was at GI state park on Tuesday morning and I could see bait being busted just past the first bar. Pelicans and terns were diving all around. With a long rod you could easily wade out and cast to the feeding frenzy I saw.

Re: Lake Raven summer population...
Raven is a good place for kayaking because gas motors aren't allowed. I've only fished it once in late summer and thought there were a few people on the water, it wasn't crowded. There are a few gators but nothing I'd worry about. It looks extremely bass fishy but the fish are under a lot of pressur...

Re: Future of Kayak Development
I've noticed that the trend is to make kayak more like your personal fishing vessel. I've noticed the expansion of cargo area, livewells, more rod rollers and ways to add accessories and bells and whistles. With that comes the need to accommodate it all and wider is the easiest way to do that. I'm n...

Re: Getting Frustrated!
I looked at Pierce, and these are spots I would check out. All the drains I would set up on mostly outgoing tides. Some of the back areas I would check out during high tide.

Re: What to put in the tackle box?
I have a plastic box (about 6x10)with terminal tackle (hooks, jigs, sinkers) and then next to it I have super spooks for top water. I always carry 3 or more spoons as well. Then a couple of generic spinnerbaits that I can change out the trailer on. I also carry another big plastic box that has sandw...

Re: Fishing line
Depends for me. Right now I have braid on all my rods. But before I hit the water I'm going to change over one of my bait casters to mono. I think braid is great and I like the sensitivity. That being said, I feel like top waters and certain other lip crank baits have better Hook up ratios with the ...

Looks like a school of small fish between 11-13 feet over a hard bottom. I always turned off the fish icon because it covered some of the display.

Re: What are some of the best spots for redfish in spring?
I would say it depends on the weather. Personally I like marsh drains during the spring months. Once the water pours through the Reds seem to go in and out of them fairly regularly. Look on google maps satellite view and find spots.

Re: Back Lake
It's not a secret location because there were 5 other yakers there. In all honesty im sure it's the same for about any of the back lakes right now. And it's no secret that back lakes get more fish in the fall going after the bait that has grown up there all summer. I didn't divulge an exact location...

Back Lake
Hit a back lake to see if the action has picked up. It has. My favorite time of the year. The tide was way up. Probably a good 10" maybe even a foot higher than normal. I hit the back lake on the high tide so I could target drains. It was a plan for success! Once the water started moving out of...
Re: Bull reds
This time of year, the Bulls I caught were in or near passes next to a big flat. And I seem to catch them on shrimp.

Re: POC - Pringle?
I use to fish POC in a small power boat and I can tell you that any time there is a tournament down there try and avoid it. I'd drive the extra 20 minutes and go hit seadrift. But that's just me. Pringle would be a very long paddle and there will be a lot of PBs in there as well. It's fairly popular...

Re: Artificial Bait
In general it's better to tie directly to the lure. True a snap would make it easier to change bait, but unless it's a spoon or some other lure that twist, tie directly to the line. And the other rule of thumb is use mono filament or a long mono leader to top water lures. It help keep it higher in t...

I have not fished Cone Island exactly but I have been in Swan Lake and there are some fish in there. Cone island might be better once we get close to the fall and the water cools a little bit.

Re: San benard bait
There is not. It's somewhat remote. There is a small group of houses fairly close but in order to get bait I think you would have to look much closer to Lake Jackson. Whenever I fish that area I mostly use arties. On occasion I will bring my casting net if I want anything live. I could be totally wr...

Almost fishing report
So I come down to GISP to practice my in and out of the surf as I want to try BTB. Have the family and the kayak so I'm not really looking to wet a line. As we drive by the sea wall it's as calm as can be. On a good spot there might be 1 ft swells. Anyway, I get one of my kids, put on his PDF and pu...

Re: im wanting to find a new spot( possibly a place called "tiki
It is all private property. Look at the satellite view on google maps and you can see the houses. Secondly, it's better to fish from a kayak or boat in that area anyway. I'm not sure exactly how deep it is there but people have boats that they own so it is probably at least 5 feet. Close to the brid...

These stories pop up from time to time and it's a sad situation for any family that has to go through this. On the other hand when you think about the chance of getting this bacteria it's a very small %. Way less than 1%. I hope no one else contracts this but I image those with compromised immune sy...

Re: Kayak Positioning related to Tides/Current
In general i try and position my yak so that I can cast and the bait will be taken too the fish. I do not paddle over an area and then try and fish back to it. Sounds basic I know but I see newer people make that mistake a lot and then wonder why they don't hook up. It's very similar to fishing in a...

Re: Secondary Rod
Those should work fine. Rods and length are a personal preference anyway. Personally I prefer a 7-71/2 ft rod but that's just me. I try to match the reel and action of the rod to what weight of lures I use with it. My MH rods go with heavy lures and line while my M action rods go with 20-30 pound br...
