Outfitters servicing Colorado river north of Lake Buchanan
I'm considering a trip down the Colorado river from 190 down to 29. Any outfitters that service that area so I don't need two vehicles or have to leave them parked somewhere ? Anyone who's done it have any advice on the trip ? A better take out point than hwy 29 ? I've done other locations but had f...

I have just listed a Malibu Mini X for sale on this forum. My daughter started in one of these, my eight year old son currently has one. They are very stable and plenty good for adults also. Call me if you are interested. 832-216-2 013 I regret getting rid of my mini X .... great boat for the kids ...

Re: More Invasive Fish; this time goldfish!!
I treat a lot of exotic animals, reptiles, birds, smaller mammals. Some people who buy these animals actually have studied them and know what they are getting; others don't have a clue. I had one family with small children come in with a snake they had just gotten that they were proud of. It was a ...

Those lines are only valid for two weeks from the date on them .... after that , they should be removed or re-dated.

Lake Conroe & the Sam Houston National forrest. Beautiful, excellent cat fishing and free primitive camping. Google for more information and good luck. I can second this .... Went to the Stubblefield recreational area in the Sam Houston national forest last year with some friends & our kids...

You might want to re-evaluate the length you are considering for her. You being in a 135 and her in an 8-10ft yak , she's going to have to work real hard to keep up over any distance. The 12ft Perception Sport with no bells and whistles occasionally has gone on sale for $399 at Academy might be an o...

I agree with Ron Mc , try them out before you buy if at all possible. Maybe make the trip to Houston or Austin when ACK has one of their demo days which should be soon with spring approaching in a hurry. They'll have damn near every model available for you to test ride from the top of the line Hobie...

I've paddled my buddy's X-factor back and forth across Lighthouse Lakes (wouldn't wish it on you), and I normally paddle a Tarpon 160 Please don't be offended, but I'm not sure why Malibu has a market. They're heavy, they're slow, you can't stand in them, and they crack. He bought his so he could p...

I'm possibly looking to get her something small like a Malibu Mini-x. My oldest daughter is the same way, very independent!! The Mini-X is a real good choice for an inexperienced young paddler. I bought my son one (Used from someone here on TKF) when he was 7 and took him on a three day trip just a...

I did the San Jacinto last year with my 2 boys (8 & 14 at the time) from I45 to Hwy 59. For being that close to Houston , it really felt remote as there is very little along the river. We saw deer , hogs and various smaller critters & not a single person after the first 100 yards of the trip...

Looks like a fun trip and one I wouldn't mind doing (accept the last part against the wind & tide). Who did you use to shuttle ?! I did the San Jacinto last year with my boys (8 &14) from I45 - Hwy 59 .... In August. The heat was brutal but it was a really fun trip tho the water was a bit lo...

My son has a Pescador 10 which I fish out of occasionally .... I'm 6'3" 235ish and it handles me & my substantial load of gear just fine. I do plug the scuppers under the seat so my backside stays dry. You might check the Kayaks & Gear - For Sale section here and find a good deal on som...

I wont get into which yak to buy .... but I will say that your kid will probably be happier , more comfortable and just as safe in his own yak. I've got three kids of my own 8 , 9 & 15. I started out with the same idea , putting my youngest son a typically sized 7 year old at the time in the boa...

Actually I like Luces Bayou..Its on Lake Houston. This spring Lake Raven at the Huntsville State Park will be great for White Perch and Bass. Stopped in at OT's bait shop today , asked about the fishing and the woman showed me a two pictures from different fishermen each with 25-40 crappie .... from East Fork. No details on the depth or bait .... just that they were caught.

have you tried a crappie jig in Luce? Reports are that they have been catching limits there in late Dec. Haven't been up that way in a while ..... Found a few slabs suspended in ~25ft+ water in the main lake South of the power lines a couple weeks back. Not many places that deep up on the North end...

Re: Lake Houston/Luces Bayou 12/27
Crappie are more than likely in deeper water right now and will come shallow to spawn between late Feb and mid March when the water temps come up some.
Your tactic of fishing downed structure should yield very good results when they move shallow.

These are the most recent , both from the South end of the lake ~1 mile from the Duessen Park boat launch. The top one being the most recent 37lbs on Dec 18th , the bottom 41lbs about three weeks ago. https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/p200x200/1499466_783966804953757_1158277442_n.jpg ...

I fish LH quite often , both the North end around Luce's & the islands just North of 1960 as well as the South end around Duessen Park , recently I've landed a couple nice fish down on the South end fishing some humps near the mouth of a creek .... Big fish in small numbers. Cant seem to get the...

I did the San Jacinto from I45 to 59 this past summer with my two boys (8 & 14 at the time). As close as it is to home , it really left you feeling like you were in a remote area for much of the trip. Took us three days and two nights and had we carried more water we'd likely have stretched it o...

just to see if I understand what I've been reading. The only difference between the 5500 and 6500 is a clicker and line capacity, right? Same gears, same 15lbs of drag. thanks Here's a link to the ABU Garcia site and a comparison of the two reels. http://www.abugarcia.com/products/reels/round-reels...

Looking for a good cat (Blue and flathead) reel. Was thinking on an Abu Garcia 6500c3. Any other suggestions? I don't think you can go wrong with a 6500c , I have two 6800c's (made back in the 80's) and they are as reliable as you can get with plenty of muscle under most circumstances. Thanks. I wa...
