Shower for My Kayak Trailer
Since I have not been able to get offshore yet this year, the best I can do is talk about my Kayak, trailer or someone else's fishing! I just put together this pressurized PVC pipe for washing myself off when I get back in from offshore. Shower a.jpg Shower b.jpg Shower c.jpg I just have to get it m...

Re: Small cooler with plastic zipper for BTB
I have two very small and very cheap soft coolers with nylon zippers I bought at Walmart abut 8 years ago. One holds Ribbon fish and the other 4 or five water bottles, a Snickers and Breakfast bar. I would cry if I lost my very cheap coolers. With that said, try Walmart! Mine work great and have las...

Re: Kayaking for fitness
When I don't catch anything you can guarantee I just went for the exercise! Only when I catch something did I go fishing!
Either way, I love being on the Kayak.

Port Mansfield Jetties?
My wife and I are going to SPI this Mid October. She said I could take the kayak and we might drive the 20 miles north to the Port Mansfield Jetties. I have never fished there. Any advice would be great. I am guessing Reds, Trout and Spanish will be hanging around. What about Kings? Should I troll a...

Okay,
It's farther across than I guessed. Guess planing a nice trip down or up from the other side might be the ticket!

Port Mansfield
I am thinking about taking a trip to Port Mansfield next year. I could drive down the 60 miles to the jetties on the beach or drive to Port Mansfield and paddle out to the cut. I would like to here from people that have been there. How far is it from Port Mansfield across the bay to the cut? I am gu...

I fished the flats on Friday without much luck. But I did see them too.

Anyone Catch Kings on Saturday 9/7 ?
The conditions looked great on Saturday and I fished the Rigs out from the State Park. There were no birds. I saw one turtle and only caught one Spanish off a lure. It was a King dead Zone. Was it just me? September is usually pretty good. Maybe it was just a bad day.

BTB this Friday 8/9 anyone?
The conditions look good enough. If anyone is going out this Friday anywhere from Myan Princes to PINS and does not mind company let me know. This will only be my second time down this year. If I go solo, I'll most likely go to Bob Hall.

Re: Upside down Maiden Viking offshore voyage
I've never "Turtled" going out, just coming in. When coming in I use to take off my reels, store them inside and lay my rods down. Sometimes I would use a small drift anchor. It's slow but works awesome! The other day, I came straight in. I got sideways and jumped off. This is another meth...

Re: Upside down Maiden Viking offshore voyage
Thanks for the responses. If all goes right I will get lots of good practice his year in that Viking! Thanks for the paddle advice too. I'll have to go to Roy's and check out how some different ones feel.

Upside down Maiden Viking offshore voyage
I took my new Viking out to Bob Hall standpipe on Friday. First off, I love the Viking kayak! There were a couple of nasty sets going out but went thru with no problem. Just before I got to the Standpipe, I stopped to put on a Ribbon Fish. I pulled a dozen out of my fish bag, took one out and turned...

Re: Grand Isle State Park
have not heard of any Off shore Kayak fishing spots in Louisiana like we have in Texas,. But there is a great spot for Reds in Point-Aux-Chenes, Montegut, LA. Its about on hour or so away from Grand Isl. Here is a link to a Kayak fishing launch area there. http://packayakrental.com It's really a ver...

Re: Roy's Bait and Tackle
I probably should not have posted this. I told myself a long time ago that I would only post positive stuff on forums. So, I apologize. I was very irritated at the time. As Prof. Salt pointed out they were trying to protect themselves. I understand that, but they knew who we were. It was a stupid de...

Roy's Bait and Tackle
This is not BTB but I wanted to get this off my chest. First off I think Roy's for the most part is an awesome store. They have an amazing stock of merchandise. Sometimes when everyone else is out of Ribbon fish, Roy's might have them. I personally never felt they were the friendliest folks in town,...

You might just pull it off on Friday. I'll keep an eye on the forecast. I might try and get away and go down. The rest of the week and Saturday look bad.

Re: Wire Size?
thanks for that. I will give this a try. I have been using wind on leaders and split rings for casting and split rings for my floro. I think I can do that and not have to tie the loop knot.

Re: Wire Size?
What about lures ? Are you using NiTi on them or SS wire? I will order some NiTi . Do you tie it like floro? I like the improved Clinch.

Not BTB and Not Texas but I was thrilled for her...
Several weeks ago I took a trip to Louisiana with my 14 year old daughter. We managed one day of Kayak fishing. My daughter caught her first fish of any size on a spinner, a big 30 1/2 inch Red. It made my day!

Wire Size?
So ever since I started going BTP about 6-7 years ago I have been using 40 lb Malin wire for my KIngfish rigs and lures. All in all I have been fairly happy with that size. I can catch several kings on one rig. The 40 lb wire is easy to straighten. But, on real clear days I wonder if I am missing so...

Re: My son's first two kings were giants!
Thanks for that info. The Yellow Fin Tuna love that 80 gram Baitfish! I guess the 30 gram trolls better from the slower kayak. Until now I I did not think about using the smaller one but I'll have some before my next trip!

Re: My son's first two kings were giants!
I actually use the Halco Max 130, it's the 80 grams. Are ya'll using that one or the lighter Max 110 which is 30 grams. I have been using the Pilchard pattern but my go to Tuna one is the Baitfish, so I'll try that.

Re: My son's first two kings were giants!
Sounds like good trips despite the missing tackle pods. Which Halcos do you use I have a blue Halco Max 110 that I have caught Yellow fin Tuna on and my biggest King Fish! I thought I was the only one using these for Kingfish. My favorite lure!
