Re: Fly Rod Advice...
Seen that video before, pretty awesome. I also like the idea of two different tips, even like ROBDAWG said, I'm not good enough at casting to notice. I was already planning on getting an 8 wt. or 10 wt. from them as my next purchase but I think that makes it more appealing.

Re: Chigger ALERT
I remember getting chewed up as a kid riding 4 wheelers in tall grass, then getting a whooping for not wearing jeans or using bug spray haha little buggars are ruthless. Thanks for the heads up though!

I read that same article in Fly Fishing in Saltwater, but completely forgot about the noodle thing. Glad you mentioned something. How deep is your basket and how high do you wear it?

Re: Homemade stripping basket
Do your line get stuck in the holes on the side of your basket? I'm going to make a stripping basket sometime in the very near future but that looks like a problem area.

Re: Best way to clean fly line?
That would be great Doug, I appreciate that. I may actually be to North Houston this weekend and wanted to try and make it down to I-10 anyways. I wouldn't have any use for a 4wt line, but a friend of mine in Tomball has a 4wt I believe.

Re: Microwave catfish for lunch
Ok, turns out you can do it (with the chicken), just need to be careful to make sure internal temperatures are even. So I guess a thinner filet would be be even easier to maintain that. On another note, recipe is right up my alley being a college student that doesn't always have to cook an entire me...

Re: Best way to clean fly line?
I'm having a hard time finding musclin anywhere, does anybody have any links to who sells it? Got some SA line dressing and a cleaning pad from Gander Mountain, haven't dressed the line yet but cleaned it and stretched it (thanks for reminding me about that LUISJG). Hopefully I'll make it out to the...

Is fish safe to put in a microwave? I've always heard chicken isn't and fish seems somewhat sketchy.

Re: Eating Beaver?
Beaver would be interesting, coon sounds gross. Mainly because of the differences in their diet. I've had lots of squirrel growing up in Louisiana and always liked it. Sounds like a good slab of beaver you got, let us know how it was. I've also heard that beaver tail was a prized possession.

Re: Best way to clean fly line?
I did both my line and backing under the assumption that even though I haven't gotten all the way down to the spool yet, there will be lots of crud that seeps through, then dressed my the line. Can any of you more knowledgeable guys chime in?

Re: Staples lake
I usually give my bass poppers a big gulp immediately then let them sit for 30 seconds of so then strip about 10 ft and pop 'em again, then repeat. No real luck with that. I have a 1/0 and 2/0 bass popper I got from Bass Pro. Where did you get the ones you were using, they look a lot nicer than mine...

I would suggest picking through the salmon for vertebrae and other small bones before adding it to anything, unless you enjoy the crunch. Recipe looks great though, already a huge fan of salmon cakes so it's sort of a natural progression.

How do you play your popper? I have had 0 luck with any of mine so I figured I'm not stripping well enough.

Detergent being the the powdery stuff that goes directly into the dishwasher and soap being the liquid stuff I soak my pots in after making delicious mac-n-cheese but can use the same soap to wash my hands? Nice, good advice. Saved the smooth drag link and need some oil now. We'll just have to see about the bearings when I finally break the reels down, but they don't seem bad now. I'll try and take pictures of everything.

Don't mean to steal the thread, but I don't own a kayak yet. Only rented a couple times, is the fishing much better in Summerville when you can paddle out?

osok - thanks for the encouragement! I love casting a fly over convential casting. It really is sort of an art, gets better over time. Re: Vintage Abu Reels
RP - I've been to the Abu site and it wasn't as helpful as I expected. Don't need schematics. I had found a scanned manual for this era of Ambassadeurs somewhere, but couldn't get the images large enough to actually read them. Redwold - That's a great idea! I don't know why I never thought about FTU...
