Re: Flounder fishing Christmas and Cold Pass
Great post Jim... just WAY to early to be hitting those areas... Great areas and anglers should definitely hit them later this fall.. probably in the Nov to mid december time frame. There are some areas in Christmas that might produce earlier. for those of you on TKF or visiting.. and for those of y...

Re: Port Aransas This Weekend
depends on where your forecast is from. Wind Guru is a better forecast here's the closest one to that area... looking to be higher than 10... https://www.windguru.cz/206913 general rule for a kayak is anything 12 or less is doable on the flats for most people. 14-15 starts to get tiring for a lot of...

Re: Line selection for inshore Kayak Fishing
total line amount is not really a big deal with inshore fishing... even the smallest baitcaster rated at 85 yards of mono will be plenty.. those usually hold 125 -150 yards of braid. you're 3000 level reel is fine.. 20lb braid on a spin caster and leader can vary from 15lb - 30lb and many times 20lb...

Re: New to the sport, new to the forum, need a little help please after my first excursion :)
Welcome to the sport... I'd love to help you more... it's totally doable to stick with the kayak and not get a boat, but you have to really understand the fish and where to fish when. Como and Dana's are ok this time of year but there are certainly better options. You could look at the freeport mars...

I'm not completely sure what area you are in.. you say you are in s. texas but you indicate sabine area fishing spots that you've heard about. There is also this old resource of launch sites https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?hl=en&mid=1m4dxbGTW8lNCSxYMhSFOUfH-ZPQ&ll=29.749536567255674%2C-...

Re: Fishing line
If you don't want to lose fish -- better sharpen your hooks before every trip, it works much better than changing line :) LOL Not necessary so... mono.. change it. Braid.. depends on the user and how often and casting style. Yes some one that fishes monthly it can last a while. Sharp hooks help hoo...

Re: Fishing line
Mono has it's place... but if you're serious about keeping every fish you hook I'd change it monthly if you're fishing any sort of structure at all.. if you are fishing open water with no structure I'd change it every 3-4 months. Back when I was fishing with mono for trophy largemouth (years ago) I ...

Congrats on your 25 that's a good fish. I'd probably wait for something over 26.. but to each is own.. There's not a ton of 26 and overs but there are several caught each fall in December.

Just remember to only use that NOAA nautical chart as general reference. They are not current at all. ~60 years old and a ton has change in many areas. Some areas haven't but other have. Just be smart.

IF the boys are already diehard big trout hard core fish all day without a bite just to catch 1 fish and have fished since they were 5.. then take them to baffin, but if they're just getting into fishing and this is a new experience... get a guide that is good with kids and also good at catching a l...

Yeah Billy Ray is doing good with his clean up.
The trash that people leave is only a drop in the bucket as to what washes down from big cities. Both should be cleaned up and we need to educate those that don't know it's affect. Without educating a friend or two it's only going to be short lived.

Re: Grasswalker review
I love these lures. Casting distance is great, the sink rate is perfect, and they flat catch fish. I usually have a white grasswalker loaded and ready, and at one point on my last trip a fish managed to break mine off. No problem, I just put on another one ...but the second one didn't have a glass ...

braid for flounder all the way. You need the hook setting power for them. It would be ok to use a leader if you want to but many are caught tying directly to the eye. Flounder arn't line shy.

I had a kayak angler contact me last week. He travels in from up north.. snow bird or what ever we call then these days. He was making his annual order of lures. He said before using my lure he hadn't fished much and but had tried a whole host of other lures. Said he caught his first red with my lur...
