Re: Fishing Galveston with my daughter

I think GISP would be the best place. How old is she? there are lots of flats and a marsh cut or two you could go look into but it will be safe.

Re: Paul Brown lures

yeah, they are fine. Several years ago Mirrolure started making them in Costa Rica and they changed the formula to this one and it's likely just excessive plasticizer. It will come out for years and years and will not hurt the lure, nor will it deter the bite. I've caught plenty of fish on them bein...

Re: Too Much Bait?

I doubt that was the problem, sometimes you just have to move around and find where the fish are around all that bait. Fish the bait schools like they are structure. There's always some reds in that are from now thru November. I used to fish that area a lot.

Re: Corpus/Aransas area fishing

there are certainly areas to wade between packery and East Flats. If you are good at fly casting I think you'd be fine, you can probably buy some saltwater flies and any tippet you need at Roys btween Corpus and the Island. Early morning winds should be lite. The only way to start doing it is to sta...

Fat boy almost exclusively for me ... if you can't catch catch them with the Tx Chicken or the Pearl with black back, then it's rare to need any other color. I do use other colors just for fun but you could fish the entire texas coast with those two colors and catch some trout... by some I mean LOAD...

Re: Reel Cleaning - Complete Breakdown

Neumie's post is spot on... if it's dunked for sure a total take down. Other wise the reel goes down hard in the middle of a trip about 6 months later. My kits looks a lot like yours except I use denatured alcohol instead of dawn. I'm mainly looking to remove salt and water and not grease or oil. I ...

Re: Boating Etiquette

My busy summer weekend fishing strategy nowadays besides just staying off the water is to find the hardest to navigate, shell infested water I can get to. It doesn’t guarantee solitude or that some boat won’t find a way in, but it helps. Totally agree with this one.. rocks and oyster are your frien...

Re: Speckled trout mount/ replica

This spring I caught 3 over 8lbs (one of those 9lbs 6oz) and put two buddies on big fish as well, one a 9.25lb beast and another on a big 29" fish that we didn't get to weigh. i would at least wait till you break the 29" mark, and definitely do a replica. The experience of letting big fish...

There is much more to learn Tom... email me later and I have something for you. tobin@troutsupport.com There is a real art to choosing where to fish for each trip and there are a lot of variables to put into that equation like tides, winds, seasonal conditions, and water conditions, even thru the da...

Re: Thinking About East Matagorda or Palacios Area for July 13

not to mention that by the time you land it and pack it back up the fish has then moved. Now if you find an areas with some schools running around, then that's enough fish that you can go in their and hunt around for the schools again. Jared Esley has some great footage and used that method. It's a ...

They aren't too bad, but I prefer the south jetty. It seems to give me more flexibility with regard to depth. But if all you have is a quick trip and you're on the seawall then hit them fast with a topwater or suspending bait.

You are welcome Tom. We haven't had too much floating grass until now (finally getting hot enough). keep at it, like Ron said, it will grow on you. I have customers telling me they love it and it's helped them use less tackle overall and their box gets smaller since all they need is a topwater, a gr...

Re: What to look for to find fish in the surf?

I've seen times when we went right on catching trout with the dolphins in near proximity. Of course if they blow through the school its going to shut them down a little while and they'll move as well. it was likely the lack of live shrimp, trout will eat dead but when you have a live one on he's out...

Re: Wading at the end of sportmans road

Use your kayak to move arround and then park it and wade. That's really the best of both worlds. There are lots of times when being able to more just 100 or 200 yards quickly will make all the difference in the world. Whats' there depends on when you fish it. Right now you can catch a couple residen...

Check out this customer, Clayton Thomas took a bunch of his friends to Chandeleur Isl and KILLED it. That had a bunch of floating grass to deal with so they mostly threw the GrassWalker... 3 days the party ended up with 275 trout and 45 redfish mostly caught on the bait.
