Re: New to fresh water fishing
Remember, the 15th is Valentines :P WARNING: Valentine's day is on the 14th of February. Just trying to help a brother out. I thought I had made dinner reservations and planned a hunt all on the wrong day. Had my heart pumping there. Good catch! That makes Valentines on a Thursday. I'm in t...

That would be cool with me! Remember, the 15th is Valentines :P Get her something pretty and get out! I fish mid coast. For the past 6 months I've been scouting out Keller Bay. If you ever wanna fish it, hit me up. I don't have a truck right now, I have to borrow one when I want to go out (every wee...

Re: Academy Deal Alert!!
I'm happy to say that I am finally at the point in my fishing where all I ever have to buy is an occasional pack of jigheads with gulp/plastics. It's nice to go to Academy and spend less than $20. It only took me a year to get there ;) but hey, I just bought a big jar of gulp and don't lose my jigs...

Re: New to fresh water fishing
10'!!!! How about a light pole. 7-7.5', 20lb Braid (width of 4lb mono I think). When you say "Jigging", I think the art of jigging in salt water is different. I'm reeling to me while bouncing... do you mean just bouncing it in the same spot? If I got a 1/8 or 1/16oz jig could I hook those ...

Battery to power misc. fun stuff!
I touched on this before a while ago. I'm back at it again and will purchase all supplies within the next two weeks. 12v 28Ah Battery http://www.atbatt.com/product/3604/sla/power-sonic/12v-28ah/battery#tabs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; -This should power everything I need...

Re: New to fresh water fishing
Some good information. Also: The best Crappie fishing I have ever done is at Lake Texanna. Hwy 59 goes over it between Ganado and Edna. Go north of 59 into the "jungle" and you will have a great time. Power boaters may need to go several times to find their way in but kayakers will not hav...

New to fresh water fishing
I think it would be great to have a sticky for newbies to fresh water - same for salt water in the saltwater forums. Anyway... I've always fished salt water and love it. I'm a fisherman and I get on the water whenever I can. I have a Hobie PA 14 2013 all rigged up for a good time, every time. The re...

Re: Seagulls eating ducks
That's not uncommon. Most nights when I went out for the last few times I see probably 50-75 dead ducks floating by. Looks like someone dug their breasts out and threw em in the water. You can see the hard heads tearing em' up too. First time I saw it I was amazed. Tons of hardhead on one duck when ...

Re: Hobie PA 12 owners
Ahhh... I'll check at lunch and see how mine is. I just took it out twice this weekend. Saturday for ~ 6 hours and Sunday for ~ 2 hours. I've tried draining the yak, but nothing comes out so I've never drained it. As much as I go fishing if my yak were like yours I would be sunk. I'll post something...

Re: Yeti coolers: Love them or hate them?
Haven't personally used the Yeti, but found this clip on YouTube useful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-TE4RnqT0U" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I have multiple coolers and my Coleman Extreme works well. I just can't justify the cost of a yeti when the Coleman does the jo...

Re: Fishing with no water movement.
I gotta say, I have a bunch of fishing spots that I check out when I go fishing. I know what conditions the fish bite in my main spots, so I do know when I need to go out based on the tide/wind. However, the last two days the conditions have been the opposite of what I'm used to. The chop was.. huge...

Re: Hobie PA 12 owners
Yeah, you spent too much money to let this slide. I stand by what I said. Call Hobie if your dealer won't help. Your weight is not the issue. I take mine fishing with another guy on the back some times (sitting on an ice chest). We do fine.. and there's no water. Like I said, down by your rudder eve...

Re: Fishing with no water movement.
I don't care if the water is moving or not, I'll still go fishing. On a bad day I'll still come out with two or three fish. Beats sitting at home! Maybe if you're only planning on staying out for a few hours, but when I fish I stay out all day. That's plenty of time to move to different areas until ...

Re: Hobie PA 12 owners
I've been back to the dealer, and if mine is designed like this, all of them are. I don't know who told you that, but kayaks are not made to take on water over time. Hobies are definitely not made to take on water. And Hobie Pro Anglers and super definitely not supposed to take on water. If...

Re: Hobie PA 12 owners
 No. I bought a PA 14 and have taken it out probably 10-15 times. First or second time taking it out (can't remember) my rudder just fell off about an hour away from the dock. I didn't get water in the hull even then... that's all sealed up tight. If it's a new boat send it back under warrant...

Re: Clear water. I can see the Drum but can't catch em!
notoriously picky fish the black drum can be.....sticking with the gulp is your best bet with plastic worms, i don't use them but i know people who do and they do get picked up more than others....they don't like to hit a moving target so hanging it under a popping cork or setting on the bottom may...

Re: Clear water. I can see the Drum but can't catch em!
Go to smaller baits. I only fly fish, so small is not usually a problem, but with conventional tackle baits - it can be. 3-4" seems huge to me when fishing for Black drum. Try to find some smaller arti's and see if it helps. Good idea. I caught a 50" drum on half a shrimp last winter. I'l...

Clear water. I can see the Drum but can't catch em!
Last time I went out in my kayak, two weeks ago, the water was clear. I was drifting for Reds, but I would see drum swimming everywhere. I didn't spook em and I was drifting so slow they didn't notice me. I threw my DoA in front of them and my Gulp 3" and 4" shrimp. They would either keep ...

Re: My Rocket Launcher (not complete)
I took off everything that I wouldn't be taking with me in a day trip. That's the bimini (because it's not complete) and the 360 light. I cut about a foot and a half off my retractable fish net so I could place it where it is... I also took off the other swivel arm and cut some of the foam off the l...
