Re: Avg, Good, or What Value?
Took it out today and had a great time doing nothing but goofing around, trying to find the tipping point, got up on my knees for a while, sat and paddled side-saddle and threw some lures. I'm pleased and was as dry as I wanted to be! I like the value!

Re: ? about kayaks
...ask if you can paddle theirs (most of us are happy to). The bottom line is that you need to try them out and find which one excites you. You will find one (or a few kayaks) that will just WORK for you, and those are the ones you want to choose from. Fishing from a boat is different than on/in a ...

Avg, Good, or What Value?
A good deal is one you are happy. When both parties are done and happy, you've got a great deal. Well, I just wrapped up a great deal. 08 MR 12 w/paddle, for less than $600, more than $500. Yak is mounted on the eack for the ride home. Crate is made, making a cart. So, I'm geeked right now. I do, ho...

Re: I'm new go easy on me, have lots of questions
Im not into speed but dont want to be tired when I get to where im dropping a hook You don't know it yet, but you ARE into speed. Get into the yaks, test drive them, and you will gravitate towards the faster yaks. "Speed" is a term, when used in kayaking, that doesn't mean "I'm going...

Re: Using the front hatch
On the same subject, is there an easy way to get up to the front hatch when you're out on the water? I can't really imagine crawling up there over the footrests. My knees would take a beating. Can't say much about the first part of your post, however, I access front hatches easiest while sitting si...

Re: Obtaining first kayak...
You are probably a bit large for that kayak... As far as trading the guns I think the guy getting the guns is getting the better deal. That kayak is probably around $800 If possible try and get yourself a ocean kayak big game, cobra fish and dive, malibu xfactor, widerness systems ride 135, or any ...

Re: Obtaining first kayak...
Have you looked at the Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game or Wilderness System Ride? These have good capacity. The new WS Ride 115 & 135 (2012) both have great capacity. For that matter, so does the discontinued 2007-11 model. $600-$700. There is a guy on TKF selling an older one in the Tyler area(Bul...

Re: I'm new go easy on me, have lots of questions
Kenneth, There are a ton of helpful people here, it's a good forum and community. I'm about as new here as you are and it looks like I have asked some of the same questions you are asking. Check out this thread, http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=166951" onclick=&...

Re: looking for kayak for me
I've been looking for some time now too. Thanks to the TKR'rs, I have borrowed before buying. I've narrowed it down to a 12 ft Pescador $499, a 13 ft Prowler $599 or an 11 ft Trident $699. The Prowler is the biggest, heaviest and has more storage options. The Trident can be fashioned out into a pret...

Re: Looking for insight
Prowler T13 - Probably the best all around yak on your list...Pescador/Tarpon 120 - Really good yaks. At the very least, figure what ratio of river to flat water paddling you're doing. Then get a yak that fits the larger paddling style best. If it's a 50/50 split, you're going to sacrifice a little...

Re: Looking for insight
Get yourself a pescador. That way you won't be investing to much into your first kayak. And you can pick one up pretty much anywhere. They were on sale for $469 recently but I think you just missed it. It's a great kayak at a low price. Thanks Dave, I've had my eye on the pescador for some time, it...

Looking for insight
Long time lurker, newly registered TKF'r. I've read thread after thread concerning my questions. First, I know each yak is as different as each person. I also understand before buying, you need to float and paddle those you are considering. I can't say enough how much I appreciate this forum. The we...
