Re: WARNING - To those that put in under 146 bridge

Are you saying two guys ran off in the truck with your stuff while the other one paddled away in his own kayak while leaving his truck?

Make that x5 on the palomar. It is a positive knot and will not loosen. I have never lost a fish due to the palomar knot failing.

Re: Texas City

I went out there about a week ago. It was nice morning, calm winds, some cloud cover, and the water was smooth. I got into some sand trout early on and then it really slowed down, with nothing at all. I then hooked on a flounder near the end. By 10AM, a big storm rolled through and I had to get off ...

I catch both on both, but I will say that gold almost always outperforms silver for me, on all fish. Then again, I think I use the gold more, so results may be skewed.

I've always found Chocolate Bay (and Bayou) to be good for flounder this time of year. Good report. I often use a morning glory paddletail and catch flounder with it. That color, as well as pumpkin seed, do well there.

Be careful buying off brand stuff. If it doesn't have an SPF rating, it may still allow for harmful UV radiation exposure. Unfortunately, you can still get skin damage with a lot of garments even when they "cover" you fully.

I'm glad you asked the question, "Where is the mercury coming from?". There is a long answer and short answer. The short, coal fired power plants and some burning of fossil fuels but not to the extent of coal. Also your "green" energy efficient CFL bulbs in your home, possibly r...

CB - 12/31/2012

Launched at the 2004 bridge early this morning around 6:30AM. The weather report called for 20% chance of rain until noon, where it jumped to 50% and soon to 80% by 8PM. No rain in the morning, just cloud cover till about 10:30AM. Weather report called for 17mph winds, but at Chocolate Bayou it was ...

Re: Heartbroken at Bolivar Pocket Sunday AM 9/2

I fished Bolivar Pocket earlier this year and like a moron, I forgot my net. Hooked on 3 specks, 15, 16 and 22 and sure enough, each and every time they spit the hook out. The 22 inch I actually had in my hands, then he fin slapped me in the face and proceeded to jump back in the water. Needless to ...

10ft is long enough. The only time I like having a longer kayak is crossing open water.

About a year ago I was wade fishing in Texas City with live shrimp. Catfish kept stealing my bait and I must of unhooked at least 3 gaftops and a couple of hardheads. After I unhooked a small gaftop, I just dropped my completely unbaited hook in the water as I reached for another shrimp. I pull up t...

Re: Clear Creek August 27, 2012

The problem with Clear Creek is that it collects large amounts of runoff. As the saying goes, the solution to pollution is dilution. Clear Creek is not large enough to dilute contaminants and it collects all the chemical runoff from surrounding neighborhoods, roads and industries. Unfortunately the ...

No, its open earlier. There is a form you can grab and attach to your window. You put the fee with the rest of the form in their dropbox. The gate normally opens at 7:00AM.

Wading channels like these are a common occurrence. I once saw some people wading near the flood gate of Moses Lake. If only they knew how incredibly strong that current tears through that gate on a good tide movement, maybe they'd think twice before stepping out there.

There's a light off the levee near the entrance of the dike. Many people along the dike bring generators and setup their own lights. There are also a couple other lights along the levee going towards Moses Lake.

When the wind is low over there, mosquitoes are absolutely brutal. One time I was attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes so bad that I accidently knocked off a pair of Wiley-X glasses into the water. It's somewhere near the launch, if anyone hooks on them, their yours!

TX City - Dolphin Encounter

I wanted to fish Moses Lake, but my friend bailed on me and it’s a pain to haul my kayak back up the hill by myself, so I decided to chance Mosquito Island. I normally don't fish this spot because I feel it just has way too much pressure and is overfished. I usually don't do well there anyway. I got...

I always carry a marine radio with me, that floats. It's much easier to just press a button and make a distress call then have to deal with a cellphone that doesn't even float. I also carry my cellphone, but just as a backup.
