After having several kayaks built by Gerald I finally talked him into a skiff.

Re: how to avoid snake and protect yourself while kayaking creek
Seriously, most folks just go overboard about snakes in the boat. I've seen photos on this site of Slowride giving rattlesnakes he found swimming in the bay a ride to the next island. Even Bill Dance, who is not a great snake fan is not a sissy when it comes to a snake in the boat. The whole thing i...

Nice! Something about the vibrations of a Worden's Rooster Tail that makes it so effective I think. It is the #1 inline spinner in my book.

In a pinch bungees will do. Otherwise I use a stringer...in case the boat turns over. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/strider_2007/brazoscatchloaded101306451lw1.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/strider_2007/040408_Bigbluestringer.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/strider...

Allen, That's so cool! Are those walleye, sauger or saugeye? I've never seen those posted on TKF before! Great other species pics, big carp, blue cat, shad on a lure and stuff you rarely see here. What a whopper bluegill too! One of the best FW posts I have ever seen here - thanks for posting! :D :D...

Although I'm not a fan of increased gov't regs seems this will help paddlers avoid landowner confrontations on a popular and underused resourse.

It's great on the grill too!budreaux wrote:Going to have to try that. Have you tried it on the grill? We used to get the CrackerBarrel seasoning for grilled catfish but they stopped making it. Cachres isn't quite as good.

Mmmmm, new spice for pan broiled fish!
The seafood guy at the Bellmead HEB turned me on to this stuff awhile back and I thought I'd share. Super-excellent on fish! He sprinkled 3 different seasonings in my hand - Cachere's, Prudhomme's and the SpiceT and the SpiceT won hands down. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/strider_2007/002s...

Re: Quickie trip on the Brazos this evening
Thanks for the report! The osprey attacking the heron sounded amazing to watch. I wonder if the heron survived the ordeal afterwards? I am sure it did. At dusk I saw a heron flying around in the same area, very likely the same one. Being water birds they are surely designed to survive such mishaps....

Quickie trip on the Brazos this evening
My Native paddling buddy Sean and I met up at the Falls on the Brazos park after a short day at work and went fishing. It was sunless, grey, drizzly and cold. On the way down and during the evening we saw hundreds and hundreds of ducks. They were flying up and downriver. There were few moments when ...

Great vid and congrats on the big fish! A suggestion on fighting big fish for future reference: try lowering the tip to waist level, fighting the fish from the side and alternating from left to right occasionally. Tires the fish quicker. Also lessens the opportunity for surface breaks which increase...

My take on the print saw you is that it is the hind foot of a beaver. No nutrias on the Brazos in McLennan, Falls or Robertson counties in my tenure here but lots of beavers. Adult beaver hind feet are as big as a mans hand (they are the beavers propulsion units).

Warthog, great post and congrats on some nice blues there, man! The game warden met a buddy of mine and me at the Falls and told me he saw y'all and asked us if we had. I went fishing on the Brazos today just as the cold front hit. It was decent at launch but by takeout, 36 degrees and northerly winds at around 18 mph. Perfect big fish day :D 24# blue http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w227/strider_2007/001sized-2_zpsb202f6a8.jpg Todays stringer, worth the numb fee...
