Re: Manta Ray/ Tarpon??
I rented a tarpon and my son has a tarpon, but I bought a manta ray. The tarpon will be faster, but imo the seat on the manta is more comfortable. Tarpons are probably more comfortable sitting side saddle in the flats. Both are good boats so it is kind of a win-win. If you are doing BTB with frequen...

Re: Paddle tails
I like H&H coachoe minnows. I use either the big or small. I think having a little variety is nice. I know we are supposed to match the hatch, but frankly I have never seen a rubber paddle tail hatch so I just try one and stay with it if it is working and change if it is not. I probably do use l...

Re: Kayak Transport on Pop-up
We have taken kayaks to michigan and back to TX via the rack on my small truck. If you can get away with putting the kayak on your vehicle instead of your pop-up then I think that is preferred.

Re: What are we doing wrong
Lot of good (and funny) answers above. First-What you DID do right-found bait and found fish. I have fished mullet hard and long for more times than I care to recall. Second-Another question is how long do you fish where fish are (and are not biting). That is a question I wish I knew the answer to. ...

Re: Summer beach camping
I looked at a lot of options myself and I ending with this set up. Just finished installing an ac window unit where the old refrigerator used to be. Are the flood lights add ons? I agree with you, truck camper is the best option for beach camping. Surprising they are not more popular in TX. Suppose...

Welcome. I used to live in the natural state myself.
Good choice on the yak. Great bang for the buck even without that 20% discount!
I agree with others. Careful on some of the rivers.

Re: Should i get a fishing kayak or just stick to boats?
It is hard to answer a question from a half a world away...but that does not seem to stop me. 1. a 14 foot kayak will be better on longer stretches or more open water than a 10 footer. I would only consider a 10 footer on a river or narrow water situation. 2. A 14 foot kayak is harder to transport t...

Re: any lure brands have good treble hooks out of the box???
I never do this. I use 'em how I buy them and change out if they get too rusty or dull. I often change to singles at that time but frankly find more than a few top waters just do not work as well as with the OEM hooks.

Re: Smaller vs. Larger Plastics
I tend to use the smaller plastics in the very shallow water, but if one is not working I try something else. My choices are small vs. large and paddle tail vs. twitch (straight tail) ones. In addition to color which I choose based on water clearity and sun (or lack thereof).

Re: Trend towards heavier/bulkier kayaks
Every yak I have owned or used is one that
1. I wish was bigger while on the water
2. I wish was smaller when loading
I got a trailer now. Once I finally get it together (only had it 11 months ) I am hoping number 2 will be easier.
