Re: BBW River Ranger 14 build

You're doing a fine job. 6mm okoume plywood is fine. I've just started a new "old Blue" and I'm using 6mm for it. I've noticed your strongback before. It works fine for S&G, but it's actually the type of strongback you'd use for a strip built boat. So--now you're all ready to do a fine...

Thanks Wild Ed. I'll do the same with yours on the Wandering Old Man page. I go to your's every once in awhile to catch up. Lots of interesting little tidbits there. Your site is one of those that gave me the idea of doing a blog type thing.

Re: BBW site closing

Hirsch: I hope so. I'm going to get really serious about providing a lot of good information. Still going to be doing a Texas Boat Builder Roundup in May. Maybe some other stuff as well. LKK: It wasn't fast enough for me. I was really bummed out about closing the sites. I kind of thought the world w...

BBW site closing

A lot can happen in a few weeks. Due to circumstances I had lost my server space for my websites. That meant that Brazos Boat Works and Texaspaddler.com (and others) were going to close. I still hold the domain names, but no space. I took cues from several people and managed to start a new blog type...

Re: Neches Race / paddle report

Tim Taylor and I usually battle it out in the lead for the senior class, but I think he would have beat me by 30 minutes this year if I had made it there. Back is still tender. CR100 36 mile training run is in 3 days. I'm still planning to make it. Slowly--maybe.

Re: Neches Race / paddle report

Yes...I was all ready for this race when my back went out on the wednesday before the race. Right now I'm hoping it will get better so I can do the CR100 training run this weekend. It sucks getting old. The Neches Race is one of my favorite. Great scenery...great place to paddle.

Re: Decking S&G - Need Help

You build the deck but don't glue it in place until you have the hatches and all other work done. I have never been more than a click away for information or advice at any time. That remains the same. I now have a new website though you can still go to the old one. In about 2 weeks the address will ...

Re: BBW River Ranger 12

This method obviously will work since it has. None of the methods are set in stone. Do what works. I like for builders to use alternate methods when they can. This is good.

That is one beautiful boat. You did a great job. I'm hoping other new builders will see just how nice these River Ranger boats can be. Hope you'll eventually give us a full paddle report. Can I borrow some of your pictures to put on my design/plan page? http://www.texaspaddler.com" onclick=&quo...

Re: BBW River Ranger 14

The River Ranger boats are symmetrical which means that CB (center of buoyancy) is right in the center. The general rule of placing a seat is to have the seat back--the portion your back touches--at 14" behind the CB. I generally end up doing it at 16", but I'm kind of weird. http://www.te...

Well...I believe they had the Texas 200 the weekend of the Safari. I hope to make the 200 one of these days, but if it is at the same time as the Safari it will be hard.

Re: Okoume Thickness

I generally use 4mm okoume on most boats. For larger boats such as dedicated fishing boats in the 16' and longer and 32" and wider range I probably would go on up to 6mm (1/4"). 1/4" is a standard material for small boats just as is 6 oz. e-glass.

Thanks Gerald...there is also a private campground about 10 miles downstream in Castell(River sounds,I think the lady that runs it puts on the Castell race) that I have not been to yet but will be going there sometime this summer. Ron and I did the Castell Race a couple of years ago, so I guess we ...
