I was on the San Juan fishing the 16th through the 19th of this month; fished the upper flats above the Texas Hole.
Had a blast cathing Bows on size 26 midges, bigest was a 21" caught on a size 28 UFO.

Re: Why/How to "stretch" fly lines?
I use the ball on my trailer hitch, or one of my side review mirrors to loop my line over to stretch my fly line.

Re: Problem Solved..
I have used that basket and like the towel over the cockpit of the yak better. If you have a problem with the wind blowing the towel around just wet it and it will stay in place. Wet towel comes in handy to clean your hands after caatching fish.

I don't know what is worse, a knot failer or a lost fly in a tree.

Kurt & Doug DON'T USE THE "Sham-wow" towel. I tried that and it absorbed sooooo much water that I sucked the entire bay dry.

Re: Fly line management in the yak
I use a dry or wet large towel and lay it over anything in the cockpit that my line would get hung up on. When in place I just strip my line on the towel. A dry towel is nice, but if the wind blowes I wet it and it stays in place. A towel has many uses besides being a stripping basket; you can clean...

Make it easy & cheap 9 foot of 12 pound Hard Mason with a loop at each end. If you need some Flo. carbon make the Hard Mason 7 foot & add the 2 foot of tippet material. Don't take my word just try it someday and you will see how well it works. I use this leader on 6 wt to 9 wt rods fishing f...

Re: Little Bitty Flys
I wonder how many folks on this site is a member of the 20 20 Club. Catching a 20" or longer fish on a size 20 or smaller hook If the truth was known most folks choose not to fish with such small hooks is that; they can't thread the eye of a size 26 or 28 fly with a 6X or 7X tippet. Catching a ...

I would try the FLY SHACK on the web, they have a good selection at a fair price. Cabelas in Buda, TX. has a fair selection, but the same as on their web page.

Re: Little Bitty Flys
I fish the San Juan river in New Mexico at least twice a year . There, a size 24 is a large fly, I tie some sizes 26, 28 & even 30 that catch 20" > 24" trouts on 6X & 7X tippets. All you have to do is match the hatch. I took John Carpenter there last year & he had a blast catch...

Re: recommendations on leaders and tippets
Cheap & simple!
For salt water I use 8' 12 pound Hard Mason leader material; some times in clear water I use 7' 16# H.M. leader with 2' of 12# Flou. Cardon tippet. I have no problem with the fly turning over with this setup on 6 > 8 wt. rods.
