Just got into guns and shooting.....(need help)
I am looking for informative forums for gun talk and some magazines that are worth reading. Which are you a part of that you recommend or some that are trash that I should avoid? I figured this site got me going in kayaking many years ago, maybe it could point me in the right direction now.

Re: What's the best spinning reel?
I am absolutely not kidding when I say this. Shimano Sienna is sold daily for $29. I originally bought them when I first got into yak fishing because I was scared I was going to dunk them. I figured if they lasted a year then I got my money's worth. 6 years later and they're still going. I only hose...

Re: Best kayaks for hauling kids
Have you ever towed anyone before? It's not fun at all. I personally wouldn't feel safe with my 5 year old out of my sight and control but that's just me. I also went with the Ultimate because my kid felt way safer inside rather than on top. There is room for him to lay down and take a nap if he wan...

Re: Best kayaks for hauling kids
I have an Ultimate 16 I take my kid on regularly. He has also been on the Stealth 12 but back will fill with water if he sits back there so he has to stay up front. I've had the little one in the front hatch of my Trident 15 without issue. If you're both going to fish, I'd say the Ultimate or any ta...

As if fish don't have enough to worry about. How nerve racking is that to know something can just swoop by and take off with you at any moment.

Re: Face shields (buffs) for $4
5 masks and 2 sleeves shipped to my door for $30. I don't know if I'll even wear the sleeves but I figured they look cool enough to spend $4. Thanks for the heads up. Some of the shirts looked cool but I figure I'll wait til they have a deal on shirts.

Re: Braid and why it's the devil...
As a slightly different opinion, I like braid on my spinning reels and mono on my baitcasters. That being said, I use spinners in the salt and baitcasters in the fresh. I hate baitcasters on the coast with all that wind. I prefer Sufix performance braid in the 40lb range (30-50). I hate Power Pro wi...

person I can go to. With both kids out of daycare, I've been thinking about getting a place on the coast. It would be upper to mid coast. Thanks.

It's too hot to be outside these days. Everybody has that flesh eating virus now. I'm off during the summer and have to get all my chores for the year done now. I play clash of clans for a quick break. Tons of soccer on TV these days. The list goes on.

Re: Academy Rods
Your Academy must be different than mine. Mine has $400 rods in there. For cheap rods that I would call "buddy rods" incase of taking a newb out, I like the H2O Express Inshore rod. It's $59 new and comes on sale for $39 occasionally. Put a Shimano Sienna 2500 on it for $29 more and you're...

Headed to Nails Creek on Sommerville....any advice?
I've never been to Nails Creek. It was one of the few that had an opening the days I wanted. I keep forgetting it's not summer yet and I can't get reservations on a whim. Gotta make reservations quick. Are there any must-see/must-do situations at this location? First family tent outing

You have have been helpful in the past with gear lists, brand names, campsites and so on so here I am again. I want to head out some weekend in April. I have some of your locations in mind. Which campsites are better for this time of year? I don't think we've ever spoken on when each site is best by...

Re: Importance of a quality rod ?
The above guys gave good specifics. I like split grip/split seat rods as well. Here's how I learned it long ago. It was based on bass fisherman but applies in the salt just as much. It stemmed from the spend more money on the rod or reel question. According to bait slingers, if you throw jigs, worms...

Re: Salt Spin Reel / Braid
Shimano Sienna 2500 ($29) on whatever rod you like. I like Sufix Performance Braid in 30-50lb. I have owned much more expensive reels and have found them to be of no greater value inshore. If I was chasing bigger fish, I would go to a better reel. I have pulled up plenty of 30lb black drum with the ...

Deals at Academy this week (topwaters and reel)
My favorite topwaters are on clearance at Academy Cinco Ranch (may be elsewhere but don't know for sure). Bomber Badonkadonk in many sizes, color and pitches for $2.99. The SS models (slow sinker) are also included. I don't believe those are in the ad and then there is this Lews reel that I know som...

I fish marshes, I paddle. I have had ACL repairs in both knees from soccer. I don't like to peddle. My shoulders still work so I don't own a powerboat yet.

I like the Mann's Waker. Someone turned me on to them last year. I bought 3 in every color. I could let some new in package ones go for an unreasonable price if anyone is interested.
